Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 10/30/09 and Monday, 11/02/09. ERNEST COCKRELL JR. HALL, 301 East Keeton Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject(s) hoisted an unknown number of pumpkins over the retaining wall located on the east side of the 2nd floor patio of the building. Gravity took control of the pumpkins and caused them to plummet to the parking lot below. Gourd debris removal cost: $20.00. Discovered on 10/31/09 at 9:04 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Minor in Possession of Alcohol: While investigating a request for medical assistance, a UT police officer discovered a UT student inside a 3rd floor dormitory room. The student, who was under the age of 21, was having extreme difficulty fielding basic questions as she repeated her first name when asked for her last name and when asked for her date of birth. While the student believed she was the President of The United States and was currently in Washington D.C., she did have some grasp of reality as she recognized one of the Austin-Travis County EMTs was a male and promptly informed him she needed to escort him out of the female dormitory. The student was turned over to her sober responsible room mate who agreed to assume care, custody and control of her. Three open bottles of alcoholic beverages were found inside the room. Occurred on 10/30/09 at 11:17 PM. O' HENRY HALL, 601 Colorado Criminal Mischief: A non-UT subject used his fist to hit a glass insert to an exterior door located on the west side of the building. The punch caused the glass insert to crack. The subject stated he struck the window as he was frustrated by a recent argument he had with his girlfriend. Repair cost: $50.00. Occurred on 11/01/09 at 2:05 AM. PARKING LOT 103, 2100 Comal Theft: A silver colored Fuji bicycle was stolen when it was “secured” with a cable lock, to a chain link fence post located on the north side of Disch-Falk Field. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on 10/30/09 between 12 noon and 2:00 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Graffiti: A white paint pen was used to make unintelligible marks on a 4th floor window located on the north side of the building. Repair cost: $30.00. Discovered on 11/01/09 at 1:50 PM. INTERCOLLEGIATE ROWING BOAT HOUSE, 300 Hearn Street Graffiti: An unknown subject(s) used a red permanent marker and a black permanent marker to write illegible words on a “No Trespassing” sign locate don't he east fence-line of the property. Removal cost: $30.00. Discovered on 10/31/09 at 12 noon. 1900 Brazos Leaving the Scene Collision: A UT Parking and Transportation staff member reported the driver of a black Toyota Camry struck the back of a black Honda CR-V and left the scene of the collision without providing driver information. The staff member informed the driver of the Camry he needed to leave driver information with the driver of the Honda. The driver of the Toyota left the scene. As he drove away, the staff member logged the license plate of the Toyota. The Toyota was registered to a UT student. UT Police contacted the student, who claimed to have not been in a collision, but agreed to return to the scene. Once on scene, the student admitted to having been involved in a “little fender bender.” The student was cited for leaving the scene of a collision. Repair cost: $150.00. Occurred on 10/30/09 at 4:38 PM. 600 Colorado Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed “bumping into the side of a building” as he attempted to walk. The subject swaggered and swayed across the breadth of the sidewalk and almost into traffic. When stopped, the subject admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages, but stated he was “okay to walk home.” The officer disagreed as the subject was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages to the point he was deemed to be a danger to himself and to surrounding buildings. Occurred on 11/01/09 at 1:14 AM. 600 Colorado Suspicious Activity: A UT Guard Officer found a purse in bushes located in near a pay-to-park parking lot located in the 600 block of Colorado Street. A UT police officer contacted the owner of the purse who stated she did not know how her purse got in the bushes and said she did not recall much of a date she had the previous night. The owner of the purse was encouraged to make a police report to the Austin Police Department regarding the events of the previous night. Occurred on 10/31/09 at 12:30 PM. 300 Jester Circle Criminal Mischief: A disabled parking sign and the pole it was affixed to were manipulated out of the ground and left lying on the side of the road. There was no evidence to support the theory that a vehicle struck the pole. Repair cost: $40.00. Discovered on 11/01/09 at 9:00 AM. 2000 San Jacinto Burglary of Motor Vehicle: An unknown person entered a gold colored Chevrolet Malibu and stole a Blackberry 8900 Curve, a cell-phone charger, an umbrella and a text book while the vehicle was parked near the Recreational Sports Center. The owner was “pretty sure” he locked the car when he parked. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle. Loss value: $330.00. Occurred between 10/31/09 at 11:00 PM and 11/01/09 at 4:00 AM. 2000 Speedway Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was found helping a non-UT subject maintain his balance as the two attempted to walk beside the roadway. The non-UT subject, who was under the age of 21, was found to barely be conscious. During the attempted interview, the subject exhibited an extreme involuntary physical reaction to the over consumption of an alcoholic beverage. That subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a danger to himself. In lieu of placing the subject under arrest for public intoxication, the subject was issued a citation for the consumption of alcohol by a minor and released to a sober responsible adult who was willing to assume care, custody and control of the subject. Occurred on 11/01/09 at 1:48 AM. 2600 Whitis Driving While Intoxicated: A UT police officer observed several subjects pushing a silver colored Mazda out of a parking space. Once the vehicle was in the roadway, the subjects left the area. The driver of the Mazda then coasted downhill for an extended period of time before entering a red light intersection and stopping. The non-UT driver of the Mazda, who through the spirit of All Hallows Eve had decided to dress as a small Winnie the Pooh character for the day, returned to his parked car to find the car's battery was dead. The subject, or “Piglet” as his new jail friends call him, was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages to the point he was deemed to have been driving, or at least coasting while intoxicated. Occurred on 11/01/09 at 2:20 AM. 2600 Whitis Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): A non-UT subject and a UT student, both of whom were under the age of 21, were found beside the roadway. The student was clutched over while grasping his stomach. The student stated his stomach hurt as this was the first time he had consumed alcohol. The student refused medical assistance. Both the student and the non-UT subject were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. Occurred on 11/01/09 at 2:00 AM. 100 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as asking pedestrians for money and then yelling at them if they did not give him any money. The subject did not ask the stopping police officer for money, but was given a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 10/30/09 at 10:45 PM. 200 West 6th Street Public Intoxication / Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was observed having difficulty walking and was stopped after he nearly fell into a traffic lane. The subject was obviously disoriented as he believed he was Guadalupe Street, then recanted that he was on 55th Street. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to be a danger to himself and others. The subject was also found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing .02 ounces of marijuana. Occurred on 10/31/09 at 3:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 38 alarm calls, 2 fire alarm activations, 2 “police Help” callbox activations, 2 suspicious activity reports, 2 suspicious package reports, 1 suspicious odor report, 2 public assist requests, 1 found property report, 2 medical emergency assists, 1 light malfunction report, 2 welfare concern reports and 2 EMS assist calls between 10/30/09 and 11/02/09.
