Report for 11/12/2009

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 11/11/09 and Thursday, 11/12/09. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Criminal Trespass / Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed a subject staggering back and forth and running into other patrons attending an event. During the investigation, the officers noted the subject had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was communicating with a slurred, thick tongue dialect. The officers learned the subject was attending the event with his sober girlfriend. The officers released the subject to his sober girlfriend and escorted both subjects from the event. A short time later, the same UT staff member informed the officer the same non-UT subject was back inside the event. The subject told the officers that his girlfriend was embarrassed and would no longer be calling him. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, additional charges for Criminal Trespass were filed. Occurred on: 11-10-09, at 9-20 PM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Ave Aggravated Assault / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT Police Officers responded to a alarm activation and discovered a UT student and her non-UT sister arguing. During the investigation, officers learned the non-UT subject had begun fighting with her sister after becoming intoxicated. The assault led to the student being injured. The victim refused to file charges and wanted to take custody of her intoxicated sister. The officer issued the non-UT subject a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 11-11-09, at 3:00 AM. ****Theft Stat Countdown**** We are 33 reported thefts from tying the lowest theft rate we have had in four years. There are 49 days left in 2009. While reviewing today's Campus Watch entries, keep in mind a burglary of motor vehicle is not listed as a theft. While a theft did occur during the burglary, a burglary of motor vehicle is a whole different category of crime. Our goal is always to prevent all thefts, but it sure would be a nice end to the calendar year knowing we had the lowest theft rate in four years. Let's all do our part to prevent thefts. Make sure you keep your office or dorm room door closed and locked. Mark your property with your state issued driver's license number. Use a quality u-lock and a cable lock to secure your bicycle. Be sure to report suspicious activity to the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441. Finally, never, ever leave your property unattended. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 alarm calls, 1 suspicious activity reports, 1 Welfare Concern, and 3 unsecured door reports between 11/11/09 and 11/12/09. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or via e-mail to Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu.
