Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 12/18/09 and Monday, 12/21/09. CLARK FIELD, 2000 San Jacinto Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found loitering by Waller Creek. The subject was found to have three outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for traffic violations. Occurred on 12/20/09 at 6:08 AM. JACK S. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 200 East MLK Criminal Mischief / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed performing stunts on the decorative metal light boxes located in the plaza on the west side of the museum. There were scratches and “dings” in the metal light boxes where the stunts were being performed. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 12/20/09 at 11:50 AM. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Theft: Three Citizen UT Commemorative watches were stolen from a 2nd floor office. Loss value: $402.25. Occurred between 12/14/09 and 12/18/09. MANOR GARAGE, 2017 Robert Dedman Criminal Mischief / Theft of Service: An unknown female subject exited her vehicle at the parking garage's north exit and attempted to push the control arm out of the way. The video surveillance system then showed an unknown white male subject approached the control arm and assisted the female with pushing the control arm out of its track and to the side. The female returned to her vehicle and exited the garage through the now open exit gate. Two other cars also exited through the open gate behind the one the female was in. Repair cost: $200.00. Occurred on 12/19/09 at 11:47 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief / Theft: A non-UT subject was reported as cutting pages out of books. When the subject was confronted by staff members, he fled the library and ran west on 21st Street. When the subject was stopped, he was found to be in possession of several torn pages from various books and a portion of a book cover which was found in his pants pocket. The subject had no recollection of how the book cover made it into his pants. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on 12/18/09 at 4:00 PM. WEST PICKLE RESEARCH BUILDING, 3925 West Braker Criminal Mischief: A locking clasp to a trailer door was cut from the trailer while the trailer was parked in the lot. Several items were removed from the trailer. Some items from the trailer were found on the ground in the parking lot. At the time of the report, it is unknown if any items were stolen from the trailer. Repair cost: $40.00. Loss value: unknown. Discovered on 12/21/09 at 1:35 AM. WEST PICKLE RESEARCH BUILDING, 3925 West Braker Attempted Burglary of a Building: While investigating the above criminal mischief case, officers discovered fresh pry marks to the door of an electrical outbuilding located on the south side of the Imaging Research Center. It did not appear entry into the outbuilding had been made. Repair cost: $50.00. Discovered on 12/21/09 at approximately 1:45 AM. 2100 Guadalupe Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject was found calling out a cadence while marching down a lane of traffic. The subject stated he was walking to his parked vehicle several blocks away. The subject was found to be in possession of a glass pipe with burned marijuana residue. Occurred on 12/19/09 at 3:30 AM. 1900 San Jacinto Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for speeding while driving a grey Mercury station wagon. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to have been driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 12/19/09 at 12:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: During the Holidays there are a number of law enforcement agencies patrolling the streets of Austin looking for intoxicated drivers. Some agencies will even put extra officers onto the streets for this purpose. This year the University of Texas at Austin has joined forces with the Travis County Attorney's Underage Drinking Prevention Program. Please see the attached to the Campus Watch. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 alarm calls, 2 fire alarm activations, 4 “Police Help” callbox activations, 1 light malfunction report, 1 medical emergency assist, 10 public assist requests and 16 unsecured door reports between 12/18/09 and 12/21/09. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
