Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 01/15/10 and Tuesday 01/19-10. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd Burglary: A UT staff member discovered a Canon digital camera and $640.00 in gift cards had been stolen from a second floor office. Loss value: $740.00. Occurred between: 1-05-10 and 1-15-10. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Burglary: A UT facility member found a fourth floor office door open. The facility member informed the officer this was odd since this area is normally secured when the staff member is not there. During the investigation, the officer determined a Mac computer and monitor had been removed from the office. Loss value: $ 1,300.00. Occurred between: 1-14-10 and 1-17-10. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black leather wallet containing several credit cards and personal identification was stolen after being removed from inside a closed backpack. The officer was informed the wallet and backpack had been left unsecured and unattended outside a racquetball court. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 1-17-10, between 10:30 AM and 1:20 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered several UT students attempting to sneak another UT student into the dormitory. The staff member soon realized the student being brought into the dormitory by the other students was very intoxicated. During the investigation, the officers learned all of the students had attended a party where the unconscious female student had become intoxicated. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning and transported her to a local area hospital for additional treatment. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the students attempting to circumvent dormitory security were referred to the Dean of Student's Office. Public Intoxication charges are pending. Occurred on: 1-18-10, at 1:00 AM. O'HENRY HALL, 601 Colorado Street Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): A UT staff member discovered two non-UT subjects camping on the south side of the building. During the investigation, the officer soon learned one subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. Both subjects were issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. The first subject was taken into custody for the outstanding outside agency arrest warrant and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 1-18-10, at 4:25 AM. SAN JACINTO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Blvd. Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT staff member discovered the rear window of her 2008 Infinity broken. During an inventory of her vehicle, the staff member discovered her knee length leather coat had been stolen. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 1-18-10, between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. SAN JACINTO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Blvd. Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the right rear window of her Nissan had been broken out. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject's purse had been removed from the front passenger's seat. An inventory of the vehicle was conducted, a Texas Driver's License and several personal checks had been taken from the middle console. Loss value: $75.00. Occurred between: 1-17-10 at 4:00 PM and 1-18-10 at 12:20 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer saw a red Nissan travelling without its headlamps turned on. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer learned the driver, a UT student, was under the legal age of 21. The subject at first admitted he had consumed a small amount of alcohol, then changed his mind and told the officer that he had not been drinking. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver did not display enough clues to be taken into custody for DWI. The subject was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor and released after his vehicle was towed. Occurred on: 1-1710, at 1:54 AM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A UT police officer saw a silver Mitsubishi fail to stop at a Stop Sign, then make a wide right hand turn. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the non-UT driver's breath. The subject informed the officer that he had consumed alcohol with his dinner, along with a large bottle of wine after dinner. The driver looked at the officer and announced his love for Austin and explained he was lost and needed directions so he could get a pizza. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The subject displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 1-17-10, at 3:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Skimmer Scam, this scam was brought to our attention six years ago, last Friday we received information this scam was discovered in California. For more information go to: http://www.krebsonsecurity.com/2010/01/would-you-have-spotted-the-fraud/ CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 45 alarm calls, 2 call box notifications, 2 fire alarm notifications, 11 public assist requests, 2 collision reports, 2 suspicious odor reports, 1 suspicious activity report and 14 unsecured door reports between 01/15/10 and 01/19/10.
