Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 02/22/10 and Tuesday, 02/23/10. ARTHUR P. WATSON'S HOUSE, 500 East 18th Street Criminal Mischief: Three greenhouse windows were broken out of the greenhouse located on the west side of the property. Repair cost: $400.00. Occurred between 02/10/10 and 02/22/10 at 4:18 PM. FACILITIES COMPLEX BUILDING. 6, 1301 East Dean Keeton Graffiti: Black paint was used to write words and draw a symbol on an exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $50.00. Discovered on 02/23/10 at 6:45 AM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATION CENTER. (BLDG. B), 2504 Whitis Burglary of Coin Operated Machine (2 counts): An unknown object was used to pry the doors open to the feminine hygiene product vending machines located inside the women's restrooms on the 3rd floor and 4th floor. At the time of the report, the amount of product and cash stolen from the machine was not known. Repair cost: $100.00. Discovered on 02/23/10 at 5:19 AM. JESTER CENTER WEST, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as soliciting cigarettes form people at the Spanish Oaks Terrance. The subject was stopped while indeed asking people for cigarettes. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 02/23/10 at 12:54 AM. PERRY-CASTENEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A black backpack containing 6 music CDs was stolen when the backpack was placed on the ground next to a 1st floor computer station where the owner was tutoring another student. Loss value: $90.00. Occurred on 02/22/10 between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. PHARMACY BUILDING, 2409 University Burglary of Coin Operated Machine (4 counts): An unknown object was used to pry the doors open to the feminine hygiene product vending machines located inside the women's restrooms on the 2nd floor, 3rd floor, 4th floor and 5th floor. At the time of the report, the amount of product and cash stolen from the machine was not known. Repair cost: $200.00. Occurred between 02/19/10 at 5:00 Pm and 02/22/10 at 8:45 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: In my experience, these thieves who break into these machines are male. We call seeing a male go into a female restroom a clue. If you happen to see such a clue, call us at 512-471-4441. Unless you plan on carrying this tip with you everywhere on campus, please program your cell phone with the dispatcher's number. PRATHER HALL DORMITORY, 305 East 21st Street Theft: An orange Trek bicycle was stolen while it was “secured” with a cable lock to the bicycle racks located on the west side of the dormitory. Loss value: $350.00. Occurred between 02/19/10 at 9:00 PM and 02/22/10 at 11:00 PM. RECREATIONAL SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Theft: An unidentified male subject ran by a UT student and grabbed the wallet form the student's hand and continued to run south on San Jacinto. The wallet contained a UT ID card and $20 in cash. The suspect was described as a male, approximately 6'2” tall wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, black shorts and black tennis shoes. Loss value: $25.00. Occurred on 02/22/10 at 7:53 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A black Schwinn bicycle was stolen while it was “secured” with a cable lock to the bicycle racks located by the dormitory. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between 02/18/10 at 4:00 PM and 02-21-10 at 6:30 PM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 24th Street Indecent Exposure: A UT student reported seeing a suspicious male subject sit down in a hallway chair located on the south side of the 3rd floor. The subject then proceeded to pull his pants down and perform an act of self gratification. The student left the area and called the police after seeing the subject walking on the 1st floor. The subject was described as a white male in his 50's with long grey hair and wearing “scruffy” blue jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket. Occurred on 02/22/10 at approximately 5:15 PM. Crime Prevention TIP: This is the second such case at UTC in the last three weeks. Please be mindful of your surroundings and if you see such activity, do not hesitate, call the police immediately. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 Alarm Calls, 1 Fire Alarm, 1 Public Assist Request, 2 Suspicious Odor Reports, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, 2 Motor Vehicle Collision Reports, 2 Medical Emergency Assists and 8 Unsecured Door Reports between 02/22/10 and 02/23/10. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that covers assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
