Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 02/25/10 and Friday, 02/26/10. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 101 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was reported passed out on first floor. During the investigation, the officer located the subject and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. When the officer was able to get the student to wake up and talk to him, the student attempted to communicate with the officer with a mush mouth dialect that was unintelligible. Austin EMS treated the student at the scene for alcohol poisoning and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Charges for Public Intoxication are pending. Occurred on: 2-25-10, at 5:04 AM. PARKING LOT 113, 2200 Comal Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the passenger side window of his Chevy truck had been broken with an unknown object. During an inventory of his vehicle the student discovered his dashboard had been pried open and his AM/FM/CD stereo, as well as a DVD player had been removed from the vehicle. Loss value: $125.00. Occurred on: 2-25-10, between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Scam: A UT staff member received a telephone call from an unidentified subject. The subject informed the staff member she was calling in regards to her Visa card. The caller informed the staff member she could pay a small monthly fee in order to receive discounts from several nationally recognized chain-stores. The staff member informed the caller she was not interested, however the caller insisted in trying to close the “deal.” The staff member hung up and used *57 and was able to successfully trap the callers telephone number. Occurred on: 2-25-10, at 9:18 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: As you can see in the header, this is a scam. As this astute staff member picked up on, this caller was not representing a bank or banking institution. After picking up on all of the Red Flags, the staff member terminated the call then utilized *57. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Harassing Communications: A UT facility member reported receiving two harassing emails from an unknown subject. Occurred on: 2-25-10. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT staff member reported two UT students were yelling and arguing with each other. The staff member was concerned the yelling would escalate into a physical confrontation. During the investigation, the officer learned the argument had started over one student getting jealous of the other. As the officers were talking to both students, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on each of the student's breath. The officers determined both students were under the legal age of 21. Both subjects were issued court appearance citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. One student informed the officers that he now realizes that he had been overreacting. Occurred on: 2-26-10 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Theft: A red colored Yamaha motorcycle was reported stolen. During the investigation, the officer learned the vehicle was not registered nor insured, which makes getting identification information very difficult; subsequently making it very difficult to even locate the stolen motorcycle. Loss value: $4,500.00. Occurred on: 2-25-10 between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Calls, 1 Fire Alarm Call, 1 “Police Help” Call Box Activation, 1 Suspicious Person Report, 2 Motor Vehicle Collisions, and 1 noise complaint between 02/25/10 and 02/26/10.
