Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 02/26/10 and Monday, 03/01/10 CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Graffiti: Words and drawings were discovered on the pedestrian bridge located on the south end of Centennial Park. The words and drawings were created in black, yellow and red spray paint. Estimated damage: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 2-27-10, at 7:58 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Assault: A UT was approached by a current UT student and a non-UT subject. Both demanded the victim contact another UT student about an incident that had occurred off campus. When the victim was hesitant, one suspect became angry and assaulted. The victim felt threatened and gave the suspect the contact information of the third UT student. Assault charges are pending. Occurred on: 2-17-10, at 4:17 AM. REC SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A silver IPod Nano with a black case was reported stolen from inside the Rec Sports Center several days before. During the investigation, the former owner of the iPod Nano, a UT student, informed the officers that another subject was inside the gym and was in possession of his stolen iPod. The officers located the subject and quickly dismissed him as a suspect since he was in possession of a different iPod. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 2-22-10. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping in an established campsite on the north side of the building. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-27-10, at 11:23 PM. 2100 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject appearing to be intoxicated had narrowly been hit by two vehicles as he attempted to cross a busy public street. During the investigation, the officers located the disheveled subject. The non-UT subject was sporting a red and severely swollen eye. The subject attempted to explain he had received the swollen eye while at a party. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and determined he was a danger to himself. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-18-10, at 4:09 AM. 2100 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Possession of Marijuana: A blue Chevy sedan was stopped after exceeding the posted Speed Limit. During the traffic investigation the officer observed several pieces of a green leafy substance on the pant legs of the front seat passenger. The officer recognized the substance as marijuana. The passenger was taken into custody and during a search of subject's backpack, the officers located a clear plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana and a digital scale. The non-UT subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-27-10, at 2:22 AM. 2500 BLCOK SAN ANTONIO Driving While Intoxicated- Open Container: A silver Mercury was observed travelling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The non-UT driver displayed several clues that indicated his level of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. During an inventory of the subject's vehicle, officers discovered an open 750ml bottle of rum on the floorboard next to the passenger's seat. Occurred on: 2-28-10, at 3:14 AM. 2700 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was having a very difficult time walking and appeared to be intoxicated. The officers located the subject and noticed the subject had abrasions on the right side along with a large bump above his eye. The subject's lip and mouth were bloody. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath even though he denied having consumed any alcohol. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and the subject admitted to having drank one or two beers. The subject was transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Charges for Public Intoxication are pending. Occurred on: 2-28-10, at 2:14 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 43 Alarm Calls, 2 Fire Alarm Calls, 3 “Police Help” Call Box Activations, 3 Suspicious Person Report, 5 unsecured door reports, and 3 EMS calls between 02/26/10 and 03/01/10.
