Crime Prevention Tip: It is a known fact that a thief will not break into a vehicle on a whim hoping to find your property. They are window shopping… from vehicle to vehicle. Once they locate an item worth stealing, it is a simple smash and grab. Mark all of your property inside your vehicle with your State issued driver's license or ID number. Resist the urge to use your vehicle as a portable storage unit. Take all of your property out or simply hide it in the trunk. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: Three feminine hygiene dispensing machines located on the second, third and fourth floor were forced open and an unknown amount of product and money were removed. Estimated damage: $175.00. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 3-16-10, at 1:13 AM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Criminal Mischief: A UT Staff member discovered a fourth floor office unsecured. Upon closer inspection, the staff member noticed the inner door frame was damaged and prevented the area from being securable. During the investigation, the officer was unable to determine if any property was missing. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 3-16-10, at 1:13 AM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Theft: A black and white Adidas bag containing three Wilson K blade tennis rackets, tennis shoes and $7.00 in cash was stolen after being left unsecured and unattended. LITTLEFIELD CARRIAGE HOUSE, 2410 Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a subject was kneeing down in the bushes located on the north side of the building. The staff member stated she believed the subject was exercising but was unsure. During the investigation, the officers located the subject a short distance away. The subject admitted to being in the area of LCH but left since he did not want to alarm anyone. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 3-15-10, at 7:25 AM. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping behind a large sign located on the northeast side of the stadium. During the investigation, the subject became very argumentative towards the officers while displaying his wordsmithing abilities. The subject continued to berate the officers after the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was being escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-15-10, at 4:09 PM. CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE DAY: As we can see, Spring Break is here. A majority of the students are enjoying a week away from their normal day-to-day routine. As we have read in today's issue of the Campus Watch, the thieves are not on Spring Break. Take a few extra minutes and ensure your office, labs, studios, and buildings are secure when you go home at night. Contact Custodial Services or ITS if you are wanting your area to be placed on a Holiday schedule. This will help in reducing unauthorized access into your building.
