Report for 03/19/2010

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 03/18/10 and Friday, 03/19/10. COLORADO BUILDING, 702 Colorado Criminal Mischief: An unidentified subject jumped up and broke the light fixture located on the south exterior wall of the building. A guard officer who witnessed the event attempted to stop the subject. The subject fled on foot and was last seen in the area of 7th Street and Congress. While running away, the subject also knocked over a sidewalk a-frame billboard and a valet parking stand. The investigation revealed the subject had previously attempted to knock down a female pedestrian in the area. The pedestrian had left the area prior to the officer being able to meet with her. Repair cost: $100.00. Occurred on 03/18/10 at 5:26 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was found loitering under the southeast stairwell of the parking garage. The subject was stopped as he walked away from the stairwell when officers began to approach him. The subject admitted to the ownership of .046 ounces of marijuana which he had left under the stairwell. The subject was also found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing an additional .099 ounces of marijuana. Occurred on 03/18/10 at 6:15 PM. 2600 Speedway Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported as sleeping on a bench located by the northwest entrance to the Chemical Petroleum Engineering Building. When the subject was awakened, it was discovered he had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 03/18/10 at 6:01 AM. 200 West 6th Street Driving While Intoxicated / Failure to ID: UT Police Officers responded to a report of a collision involving a blue Chevrolet Cobalt. Upon arrival, the officers discovered evidence of the driver having suffered a severe physical reaction to the over-consumption of alcoholic beverages. That evidence was found on the driver's pants and floorboard of the vehicle. The driver, a UT student, handed the officer her cell phone and affirmed the phone was her driver's license. The driver stated she was “straight up driving.” This claim was proven untrue as her driving was anything but “straight” as she was found to have jumped a curb and struck a building while driving. The driver also proved she was not a Geography Major as she believed she was currently located at the corner of “Bourbon and Coke.” The driver was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was deemed to have been driving while intoxicated. A passenger in the vehicle, who was also a UT student, provided officers with a fictitious name and date of birth. When officers began to investigate the offense of failure to identify, that student exclaimed she had done nothing wrong and referred to her friend and driver of the car as the one who was drunk. Occurred on 03/19/10 at 2:33 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 Alarm Calls, 1 “Police Help” Call Box Activation, 1 Fire Alarm Activation, 1 Suspicious Activity Report and 2 Public Assist Requests between 03/18/10 and 03/19/10.
