Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 04/09/10 and Monday, 04/12/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. BATTS HALL, #3 South Mall Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was reported inside a restricted first floor room. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had been issued a prior Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. While transporting the subject, the officers learned the subject had several outstanding Outside Agency Arrest warrants. Occurred on: 4-09-10, at 8:00 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer was informed there were two intoxicated individuals inside a men's restroom located in the southwest portion of the arena. The officer located two non-UT subjects staring at each other, motionless. Both subjects were swaying back and forth as they continued staring at one another. The officer noticed one subject had not used the facilities correctly, as he was now wearing wet pants. During the investigation, both subject claimed they were cousins then handed the officer a credit card as identification. One subject repeatedly claimed he was the current APD Chief Acevedo. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-10-10, at 11:00 PM. HILL OAKS COURT, 1909 Hill Oaks Court Suspicious Activity: A UT System staff member reported three unknown females walked up to the north gate and were seen exposing themselves to the cameras. Two of the three subjects appeared to be intoxicated, as they were seen staggering and falling into the gate. Occurred on: 4-06-10, at 11:51 PM. INTERMURAL FIELDS, 4900 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A non-UT subject discovered the passenger side window of her vehicle broken out. As the victim inventoried her vehicle, she discovered her purse, wallet, several credit cards, cash, as well as personal identification had been stolen. Loss value: $150.00. Damage repair: $175.00. Occurred on: 4-10-10, between 10:35 AM and 1:06 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A UT staff member reported a UT student had allowed three unauthorized subjects into a restricted area. During the investigation, the officers located the unauthorized subjects as well as several bottles of alcohol inside the dormitory room. The resident was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-11-10, at 3:00 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: An unknown subject approached a UT student and asked the student for change for a $20.00. When the student told him no, the subject asked for change for a $10.00. The subject informed the student that his car had been towed and he needed $12.50. Again the student told the subject he could not help. The unknown subject left the area prior to the arrival of the UT Police Department. The subject was described as: Black male, heavy set, mid 30's, and was last seen wearing a red, white and blue shirt and knee length blue jean shorts. Occurred on: 4-12-10, at 5:55 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Staff member reported a UT student was unconscious and laying on the sidewalk. The subject staggered off prior to the arrival of the officers, but was located a short distance away. The officers noted that the subject's clothes were wet after he had urinated on himself. The subject was argumentative towards the officers and informed them that he wanted to go to sleep and not go to jail. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released. Occurred on: 4-11-10, at 12:36 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana: A UT staff member reported a very strong odor of burning marijuana coming from an 8th floor dormitory room. As the officers arrived, the resident was standing in the hallway looking confused. The subject informed the officers that he was on his way to Houston, but was waiting on his friends. When asked about the odor of burnt marijuana, the student claimed his two friends had been smoking inside his room. While the investigation was being conducted, officers found two subjects wondering on the ninth floor. They claimed to be lost friends. As the investigation was moving along, one subject admitted to the officers that he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. The contraband was confiscated and the subject was issued a field release citation of Possession of Marijuana. All three students were referred to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 4-09-10, at 5:19 PM. LITTLEFIELD HOME, 302 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on the north side of the building. The subject had a difficult time standing and maintaining his balance. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 4-09-10, at 9:21 PM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Block Red River Public Intoxication / Criminal Mischief: A non-UT subject was reported to be kicking and damaging parked vehicles inside the parking lot. During the investigation, the officers located the suspect and learned the following. The subject was upset because she could not get a job as a teacher and had misplaced her bicycle, wallet and cellular telephone. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-10-10, at 7:51 PM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT staff member reported an Apple IPod had been stolen from inside her vehicle. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 4-09-10, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A silver GT mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a thin self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 4-09-10, between 12:01 PM and 3:00 PM. SOUTH MALL, 200 Block West Inner Campus Dr. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping near the south portion of the Main Mall. The subject claimed to be a current UT student majoring in Psychology. The officers learned the subject was not a current student or staff member nor was he a Psychology major. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-11-10, at 3:50 AM. SOUTH MALL, 200 Block West Inner Campus Dr. Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered pink colored chalk had been used to deface the pedestal of one of the statue's located on the South Mall. During the investigation, the officers soon learned the pedestrian walkway between the Main Mall and South Mall had also received the same attention as the pedestal. Loss / Damage value: $200.00. Discovered on: 4-12-10, at 12:34 AM. TWENTY-SEVENTH STREET PARKING GARAGE, 109 West 27th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student reported a case of water as well as her5 GPS tracking system had been stolen from her vehicle. Loss value: $155.00. Occurred between: 4-01-10 and 4-09-10. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out on his side and lying in the center of a pool of vomit. The subject was mumbling incoherently. The subject was treated at the scene by Austin EMS. After being treated, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-11-10, at 4:46 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 22nd STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject approached to EMS employees and claimed he had fallen. The subject became uncooperative and verbally aggressive when he was asked for his ID card. The officer noticed the subject was having a hard time retrieving his wallet due to his lack of dexterity. The subject continued to yell incoherently at the EMTs as they assisted his medical needs. The subject attempted to call a friend once the officer realized the subject was intoxicated. Again the subject was having difficulty dialing his friend due to his lack of dexterity. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-10-10, at 9:30 PM. 1900 BLOCK TRINITY Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member observed a UT student removing the reflective tape from several traffic control drums and traffic control cones then discarded them along the roadway. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject did admit to his actions and returned to the area and re-applied the reflective tapes he had removed. No charges were filed, the subject was referred to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 4-11-10, at 5:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 54 Alarm Calls, 2 medical emergency calls, 2 Fire Call reports, 7 Suspicious Activity reports, and 7 Public Assist, 8 unsecured doors between 04/08/10 and 04/09/10.
