Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 04/12/10 and Tuesday, 04/13/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ADMINSTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas at Austin Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain its accreditation status. The assessment will verify the agency's continuing adherence to professional standards. Your comments and input are requested. Please see the attachment for more information. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: An Epson projector was reported stolen from a secured 4th floor office and being left unattended on a table. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 4-09-10 and 4-12-10. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported the odor of burning marijuana coming from an 8th floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officers observed two bottles of wine. During a search officers located two glass pipes with marijuana residue and a small baggie containing marijuana seeds and stems. The subject was issued two field release citations for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-12-10, at 4:04 PM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 105 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported three textbooks were stolen from a secured locker located on the third floor. Loss value: $60.00. Occurred between 4-07-10 and 4-12-10. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student reported finding a cache of personal property inside the southwest elevator. During the investigation, a non-UT subject approached the officers and claimed ownership of all of the property. The subject informed the officers he had left his property inside the elevator because he intended to return and sleep inside the elevator. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 4-13-10, at 2:39 AM. 700 BLOCK DEAN KEETON Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported an unknown subject approached her and asked her to help jump off his car. The student told the subject that she could not assist him. The subject then entered her vehicle through an unlocked passenger door. Again the student told the subject that she could not help. The subject informed the student that he was a UT student as well as a UT baseball player and that his vehicle was parked in Lot 104 by the stadium. This student was thinking. She attempted to drive the subject to the UT Police Department. The student stated the subject became agitated and anxious when she attempted to turn towards the PD. The subject had the student drive him to the Shell Gas Station located at MLK and Chicon Street. As soon as the subject got out of her car, she sped away and reported the incident to the police. The unknown subject is described as: Black male, 30-35 years of age, tall and large is size, was last seen wearing a red t-shirt. Occurred on: 4-13-10, at 1:33 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This has been an on-going scam this semester. UTPD has arrested two individuals who are involved. I learned yesterday from a Campus Watch subscriber that he had been approached off campus near Dobie Mall. I would like offer the following recommendations: Lock your car doors when you are driving. Do not be afraid to drive off if someone is attempting to enter your car Report the incident to the police CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 25 Alarm Calls, 3 Fire Call reports, 1 Public Assist, and 1 unsecured door between 04/12/10 and 04/13/10.
