Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 04/13/10 and Wednesday, 04/14/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ADMINSTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas at Austin Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain its accreditation status. ALMETRIS DUREN RESIDENCE HALL, 2624 Whitis Theft: A UT student reported a check that had been mailed to her on February 10, 2010 from Alabama had not arrived at her dormitory mailbox. Reported on 04/13/10 at 2:20 PM. AT&T EXECUTIVE EDUCATION & CONFERENCE CENTER, 1900 University Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found sleeping in the bushes in the doorway located on the southeast side of the building. The subject was found to have five outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for blocking a public sidewalk and for being a pedestrian in the roadway. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was also issued a written criminal trespass warning citation. Occurred on 04/14/10 at 1:42 AM. L. THEO BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Burglary: Three Kodak Zi8 digital cameras were stolen from a box left inside a secured 2nd floor office. Loss value: $705.00. Occurred between 04/12/10 at 4:40 PM and 04/13/10 at 8:30 AM. 100 West 23rd Street Leaving the Scene Collision: Witnesses reported to the police a gold colored pick-up truck back into a parked Mazda. The driver of the pick-up truck left the scene without leaving his contact information on the struck vehicle. Repair cost: $850.00. Reported on 04/13/10 at 8:08 AM. 500 East 23rd Street Disorderly Conduct (Gesture): A contractor working for The University of Texas reported a burgundy colored Ford pulled up behind his vehicle at a high rate of speed. The Ford then passed the contractor's vehicle and the driver of the Ford displayed a single digit from the middle of his hand. The contractor pulled up beside the Ford on two different occasions and received the same warm reception from the driver of the Ford. Occurred on 04/14/10 at 6:49 AM. 300 East 24th Street Disorderly Conduct (exposure) / Assist Outside Agency / Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed walking down the embankment of Waller Creek. Once at the creek, the subject unzipped his pants and was seen relieving the pent up pressure of his bladder. The subject was found to be in possession of a tin box containing less than 2 ounces of marijuana and a small pipe containing burned marijuana residue. The subject was also found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for theft and you guessed it; the possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was also issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 04/13/10 at 5:50 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 26 Alarm Calls, 2 Public Assist Requests, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 1 Light Malfunction, 2 Suspicious Odor Reports, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Welfare Concern Report and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 04/13/10 and 04/14/10. The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that covers assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
