Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 04/23/10 and Monday, 04/26/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ADMINSTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas at Austin Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain its accreditation status. To view the public notice to see when, how or where you can submit your comments, visit: http://www.utexas.edu/police/news/calea_public_notice_2010.pdf BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT student slumped over a picnic table, passed out. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject. After being awakened, the subject was asked for his personal identification. The subject removed his IPod and began staring at it. The officer had to request the subject's ID several more times before he was handed a Texas Driver's License. The officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming adult beverages. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-26-10, at 2:45 AM. CLARK FIELD, 300 East 21st Street Theft / Assist Outside Agency: A UT student reported his wallet, $7.00 in cash, debit card and personal identification were stolen after being left unattended inside his shoe. The victim stated 6 six non-UT subjects had been sitting near his unsecured shoes. All six subjects were still in the area. During the investigation, the officer learned one of the suspects had several active outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the Outside Agency arrest warrants and was transported to Central Booking. During the investigation, the missing wallet and its contents were never located. Occurred on: 4-25-10, at 3:37 PM. DEVLOPMENT BUILDING, 2901 IH-35 Theft: A UT staff member reported her orange leather wallet containing $20.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification was stolen from her fourth floor office. During the investigation, the officer learned the property had been left unattended inside an unsecured office. Loss value: 45.00. Occurred on: 4-22-10, between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. DISCH-FALK FIELD, 1300 East Martin Luther King Blvd Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was reported to have fallen and passed out beneath the outfield scoreboard. Officers located the subject and discovered the subject had had an extreme physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The subject was attempting to communicate with the officers by using a slurred mush mouth dialect. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the officers learned the subject had several outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for traffic violations. Occurred on: 4-24-10, at 5:32 PM. LITTLEFIELD HOME, 302 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the porch of the LFH. The subject stated he was looking for a quite place to sleep. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-24-10, at 1:43 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was reported passed out inside a vehicle located on the west side of the dormitory. UT Police Officers arrived and discovered the subject laying in the back seat covered in vomit. The subject could not tell the officers where she was or where she was coming from. Austin EMS transported the subject to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 4-24-10, 4:04 AM. SUTTON HALL, 210 West 21st Street Graffiti: A UT student reported words etched into the black paint accompanied a drawing. The words and drawing were discovered inside a ground floor men's restroom. Loss value: $50.00. Discovered on: 4-23-10, at 11:53 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: A blue mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred between 4-15-10 and 4-18-10. 200 BLOCK WEST 7th STREET Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed several non-UT subjects fighting. After breaking up the fight, the officer learned a non-UT subject had hit a car window hard enough to break the glass. The driver of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and began fighting with the subject who had broken his window. Several additional subjects became involved and began fighting the driver of the vehicle. The Austin Police Department arrived and took the first combatant into custody. Occurred on: 4-25-10, at 2:26 AM. 300 EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was reported sitting at a picnic table between Brackenridge and Roberts Dormitories, passed out. The subject was unresponsive to the UT staff members that were attempting to wake him up. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject, from five feet away. The subject was disoriented and confused after he woke from his slumber. Austin EMS and the Austin Fire Department arrived to treat the subject for possible alcohol poisoning. The subject became very combative and informed EMS that he was a pre-med student and he was fine. The officers took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-25-10, at 3:19 AM. 1200 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a Chevy SUV commit several traffic offensives. Prior to making contact with the driver of the Chevy, the driver began dancing and singing inside the vehicle. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noted her eyes were bloodshot. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The non-UT driver displayed several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-25-10, at 2:00 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Assist Outside Agency: A UT student's parents reported needing assistance in locating their daughter. The parents reported their daughter was somewhere on campus and needed assistance. They also reported hearing a male voice in the background. Officers located the missing student passed out inside her room. The subject was having memory problems. Austin EMS arrived and transported the subject to a local area hospital. The Austin Police Department was notified. Reported: 4-24-10, at 4:45 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Many parents are reluctant to notify the police department out of fear that their child will be in trouble with the University. That is far from the truth. The UT Police Department is more concerned about a student's welfare than we are concerned about putting a student in jail. If you have a concern about your student's welfare or safety, notify the Police Department at 512-471-4441. 2000 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to hide a can of beer with his forearm as two police officers drove past him. During the investigation, the officers soon discovered the subject was under the legal age of 21 and was in possession of a 23.5-oz can of Foul Loko. The subject was issued one field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released at the scene. Occurred on: 4-24-10, at 11:40 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 57 Alarm Calls, 2 Fire Alarm Calls, 4 Suspicious Activity report, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 1 Suspicious Odor Report, 1 Public Assist Request and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 04/23/10 and 04/26/10.
