Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 05/07/10 and Monday, 05/10/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ACES BUILDING, 201 East 24th Street Theft: A blue Motorola backpack containing a black laptop computer was stolen from a second floor office area after being left unattended and unsecured. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred between: 4-30-10 and 5-03-10. Reported on: 5-07-10. BATTLE HALL, #1 West Mall Graffiti: A blue paint pen was used to write a 2 inch by 3 inch word on the north side of the building. Loss value: $50.00. Discovered on: 5-09-10, at 8:45 PM. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 Block East Martin Luther King Blvd. Theft: A UT staff member reported an orange colored tire boot was stolen after being placed on the left front tire of a 2004 Chevy Impala. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred between: 5-06-10 and 5-07-10. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 Block East Martin Luther King Blvd. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (4 Counts): A UT Police Officer responded to the north side of the parking garage on a report of several subjects staggering as they attempted to walk towards the dormitory. During the investigation, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on the breaths of all four UT students and learned all 4 were under the age of 21. As the officers began issuing the subjects citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, two of the students became very emotional and began crying to a point they needed to sit down. All 4 subjects were released after receiving a citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and a referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 5-09-10, at 2:10 AM. HARRY RAMSON CENTER, 300 West 21st Street Graffiti: Words written in black aerosol paint and a picture of an animal were discovered on the west retaining wall at the bus stop located on the south side of the building. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 5-07-10 at 3:00 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was reported to have passed out on the floor next to the elevators located on the second floor. When the officers arrived they found the subject was awake, but was argumentative. The subject was using inflammatory language that would have embarrassed the saltiest of salty sailors. Austin EMS was contacted and treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning and was later transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Charges for Public Intoxication were filed. Occurred on: 5-08-10, at 3:47 AM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A non-UT subject attempted to enter into the library after hours. The subject was asked to leave the area. The subject gathered up 6 library books and walked out. During the investigation, the subject stated a current UT student had checked out the books for him to use. All of the books were confiscated after the subject was reluctant to disclose who had checked out the books. Occurred on: 5-09-10, at 2:15 AM. REC SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A white Apple Macbook laptop computer and a Apple iPod were reported stolen from inside a secured locker located in the 1st floor men's locker room. Loss value: $900.00. Occurred between: 5-06-10 and 5-07-10. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Theft: A red Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building. Occurred between: 4-23-10, and 5-09-10. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Graffiti: A UT Police Officer discovered letters and symbols written in orange paint on the southeast portion of the building. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 5-09-10, at 7:54 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a subject attempting to maintain his navigational beacons as he swayed back and forth in front of vehicle traffic, namely a marked police vehicle. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted he was swaying in a rotational manner. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. After taking the subject into custody, the officers learned the subject had three outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for- yep Public Intoxication. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-09-10, at 12:38 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 27th STREET Public Intoxication / Failure to Identify: A UT Police Officer observed a subject swaying back and forth as he was attempting to walk. The subject walked head first into a street sign and pole with enough force, he turn 90 degrees. The subject acknowledged the sign and apologized for running into it and continued his wobbling trek. The officer stopped the subject after he walked into a retaining wall. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the UT student's breath. The subject handed the officer a California Driver's License. The picture did not match the student. When asked about the license, the student could not remember the information printed on it. The officer soon discovered the subject's true identify after being taken into custody for Public Intoxication. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-08-10, at 2:51 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Obstructing Highway or Other Passageway: UT Police Officers responded to a report of a UT student passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. The reporting person stated the subject had not moved his vehicle through at least 4 cycles of the lights. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and learned the subject had consumed several drinks earlier in the night. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests, but did not observe clues of impairment. The subject was taken into custody for Obstructing Highway or Other Passageway. Occurred on: 5-09-10, at 3:45 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Reckless Driving / Driving While License Invalid: A UT Police Officer observed a grey Chevy travelling south at a high rate of speed. The non-UT driver attempted to pass an unmarked police vehicle in a no-passing zone and had to abort due to several legally parked vehicles. The subject continued to “tailgate” the unmarked police vehicle until a marked police vehicle stopped the grey Chevy. During the traffic investigation, the subject stated he did not know that he was following a police vehicle, but was way behind in his deliveries and was in a hurry. The officer learned the subject's driver's license was suspended. The subject was taken into custody for Reckless Driving / Driving While License Invalid and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-10-10, at 12:33 AM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Criminal Trespass Warning / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT Police Officer observed a known offender walking with a female UT student. The subject is known to aggressively solicit pedestrians. The officer watched as the two walked to an ATM machine, at which point to the officer stopped the known offender. During a search of the subject, officers located a blue pipe in his pants pocket. The pipe contained burnt crack cocaine residue. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released at the scene. Occurred on: 5-08-10, at 7:00 PM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported to be standing in the middle of the roadway obstructing traffic. Officers observed the subject yelling at passing vehicles while in standing in the middle of the roadway. During the investigation the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-07-10, at 9:35 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 49 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity report, 1 Call box activation, 4 Welfare calls, 3 EMS calls, 1 Lighting malfunction, and 9 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/07/10 and 05/10/10.
