Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 5/14/10 and Monday, 05/17/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice CLAUDA TAYLOR JOHNSON HALL, 210 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the east side of the building. The subject informed the officer that he was looking for a place to sleep. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-16-10, at 4:34 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Apple iPhone was reported stolen from a 14th floor Men's restroom after the property had been left unattended inside one of the stalls. During the investigation, the officers learned the reporting person had attempted to talk to the remaining residents on the floors but was unsuccessful in locating his property. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 5-14-10, between 5:20 PM and 5:25 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT Police Officer discovered two bicycles that had been staged in a secluded area. The bicycles had been staged to appear secured, but upon closer inspection, the officer discovered the bike lock had been cut. Both bicycles were registered and the officer soon learned both bicycles had been stolen, but not yet reported as stolen. Both bicycles were impounded and the registered owners were contacted. Occurred on: 5-16-10, at 11:01 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Finals are winding down, and the thieves are ramping up for their last big hall before the students leave for the summer. It is very important to study for your tests, but that distraction allows a thief the opportunity to take what is not theirs. Keep an eye on your property and help your friends out by watching their stuff as well. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Theft: A blue Nike bag containing two LG cellular telephones, black iPod, black leather wallet, credit cards, and personal identification was stolen from a restricted area after being left unattended during an event. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 5-15-10, between 7:30 PM and 8:45 PM. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Theft: A non-UT subject reported his silver Blackberry cellular telephone, black Apple IPod and $66.00 in cash had been stolen from inside a closed knap sack. During the investigation, the officer learned the knap sack had been left unattended and unsecured inside a restricted area of the stadium. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 5-15-10, between 3:00 PM and 4:05 PM. PARKING LOT 112, 1500 Manor Road Driving While Intoxicated: A UT police officer observed four subjects standing around a vehicle. All four were inspecting the sever collision damage to the front end of the vehicle. One of the passengers of the vehicle stated they had been involved in a collision somewhere on IH-35, but drivers had exchanged information and went on their way. During the investigation, the officers learned the group was returning from a night of fun along 6th Street and that the group had patronized several local establishments while there. The officers identified the driver and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath. The subject refused to answer and questions and refused to take any Standardized Sobriety tests. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-16-10, at 3:20 PM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A light green and yellow Crossfire thumb drive was reported stolen after being left connected to an unattended computer located inside the 2nd floor computer lab. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred between: 5-07-10 and 5-14-10. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A black leather wallet containing a US passport, credit card, and personal identification was stolen from a 6th floor study area after being left unattended and unsecured on top of the table. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred on: 5-16-10, at 1:00 AM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was yelling and pounding on desks. His actions were disrupting several students sitting in the area. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers he was there to study for an art project. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building and directed to an area rich in visual art…Guadalupe. Occurred on: 5-15-10, at 3:35 PM. WEST MALL BUILDING, #3 West Mall Theft: A UT student reported the theft of his rear rim and tire from his bicycle. The student's bicycle was secured to a bike rack located on the west side of the building with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 5-12-10 and 5-14-10. 200 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Possession of Marijuana: Three UT students were reported sitting on the east side of the Blanton Museum smoking funny smelling cigarettes. During the investigation, the officers located all three students sitting in a wafting cloud of marijuana smoke. The officers located a clear plastic baggie that contained a green leafy material the officers recognized as marijuana laying on the ground under the subject sitting in the middle. A second subject handed the officer an old pill bottle that also contained marijuana. All three subjects were issued field release citation for Possession of Marijuana and released at the scene. Occurred on: 5-16-10, at 5:04 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication / Disorderly Conduct Fighting in Public (2 Counts): Two non-UT subjects were observed pushing each other and trading punches. During the investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the breaths of both combatants. Neither subject explained why they were fighting, but both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-15-10, at 2:37 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject drove a silver colored Toyota past a police officer, but failed to turn on her headlamps after entering a public road after dark. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver stated it had been sometime since she had consumed her last adult beverage. However, had it not been for a well placed parking meter, the subject would have lost her balance. The subject refused to take any of the Standardize Field Sobriety tests. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-15-10, at 3:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: As we saw in today's issue of the Campus Watch, there were thefts in and around the dormitories. While moving your property out of the dormitory, pay attention to those individuals that are lingering around the exterior doors or around vehicles. If you encounter a suspicious person contact the UT Police Department at: 512-471-4441. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 66 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Public Assist Report, 1 Found Property Report, 2 Welfare Concern Reports and 13 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/14/10 and 05/17/10.
