Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 05/17/10 and Tuesday, 05/18/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice LIVING LEARNING CENTER D, 2610 Whitis Ave Theft: A purple colored Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the dormitory after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 5-15-10 and 5-17-10. PARKING LOT 37, 2200 Red River Suspicious Activity: A concerned student report a subject was hanging from a tree located in Parking Lot 37. The subject's mere presence in the tree was intimidating to the reporting student. The unidentified subject had gotten out of the tree prior to the arrival of the responding officer. The officer and the unidentified subject located each other and seemed to be equally aware and mistrusting of one another. The subject quickly slithered under a vehicle and crawled into an engine block and would occasionally poke its head out looking for the officer. The officer notified the owner of the vehicle about the unauthorized guest. The snake left the area. Occurred on: 5-17-10, at 6:30 PM. PARKING LOT 107, 2500 Block North IH-35 Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered the driver's side window of a Ryder truck had been broken out. During the investigation, the officer was unable to determine if any property had been stolen. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 5-17-10, at 6:40 PM. STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 West Dean Keeton Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer discovered three UT students inside a restricted area after hours. The officer learned the subjects were looking to obtain medical assistance for their highly intoxicated friend. The officer learned the intoxicated student had been to several local watering holes and had been consuming alcohol. When leaving to go home, the student began to feel really-really sick… hum, I wonder why? Austin EMS was notified and treated the subject at the scene. The student refused to be transported to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 5-18-10, at 4:10 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This entire school year, both Officer Pieper and I have been stressing the need for a sober friend. As you can see, this student had two sober friends with her in her time of need. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed stopping students and staff and aggressively soliciting them for their signatures. During the investigation, the non-UT subject insisted the officers were violating his rights and he had no intentions of leaving. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-17-10, at 1:00 PM. 700 BLOCK CLYDE LITTLEFIELD Assist Outside Agency / Driving While License Invalid / No Insurance / Unregistered Motor Vehicle / No Inspection Sticker: A UT Police Officer observed a green Land Rover travelling west bound in the 700 Block Clyde Littlefield displaying both an expired registration and inspection sticker. During the traffic investigation, the UT student driver informed the officer that he currently did not have insurance, nor did he have his driver's license with him. As the investigation progressed, the officer learned the subject's driver's license was in fact suspended and he had six outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for a variety of traffic offenses including a DWI. The subject was taken into custody for Outside Agency arrest warrants and DWLS and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-17-10, at 5:37 PM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Trespass: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject sitting on top of the horse statue located on the east side of the Alumni Center. During the investigation, the officer discovered the subject had received a prior Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-17-10, at 12:40 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 Alarm Calls, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, and 6 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/17/10 and 05/18/10.
