Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 05/18/10 and Wednesday, 5/19/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. For more information on BCAL, visit the BCAL Web site at www.utexas.edu/safety/bcal or call 512-232-5050. *****ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ****** Are you a Fan of the University of Texas Police Department? During the investigation, the officer and the victim located his lock still attached to the bike rack. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 5-18-10 between 12:01 AM and 9:45 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A black colored HTC HD2 cellular telephone was stolen from a closed purse while the owner was sleeping inside a 2nd floor study area. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 5-18-10, between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Sleeping in public in never a good idea. Too many times we have seen a thief simply walk up to the intended victim, grab their backpack or other personal items and the thief walks away. Hours later the victim realizes their property has been stolen. TEXAS UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: A grey colored Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 5-18-10, between 8:00 AM and 4:55 PM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Trespass: A UT Police Officer observed a known offender talking to a UT student. When the known offender saw the police officer, the subject turned away from the officer and began talking on the student's cellular telephone. The officer learned the subject had approached the student claiming his vehicle was disabled and needed money to get it fixed. Prior to the arrival of the officer, the student had already given the subject money. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 5-18-10, at 6:55 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the same subject that was arrested in several locations around campus this school year. Each time he would stop a student or staff member and ask them for money after giving them a compelling story about how he is a student and his car was either towed or broken down. The subject is a Black male, 45 years of age, 5'-06”, 220 pounds, with a receding hair line, mustache and wears black framed glasses. If you see or are approached by this subject contact the UT Police Department at 512-471-4441 or 911.
