A second glass lamp globe was broken out of a lamp pole fixture located in the courtyard just north of the dormitory. Repair cost: $1,500.00. AT&T EXECUTIVE EDUCATION & CONFERENCE CENTER,1900 University Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject placed a 9-1-1 telephone call from her 6th floor room and whispered, “Please Help Me.” The responding officers found the subject on the floor and under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point Austin-Travis County EMS needed to transport the subject to a local hospital for the treatment of alcohol poisoning. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING, 200 East Dean Keeton Suspicious Activity (Possible Attempted Theft): A UT student reported seeing an unknown subject loitering by a bicycle that was affixed to a handrail by a thin cable lock. The subject told the student the bike was his and that he had lost the key to the lock. The subject told the student he was going to try to cut the lock off and that he had the sales receipt for the bike at his house. The student continued to make inquiries until the subject stated the bike belonged to a friend and was not his. The subject left the area after the student stated he was going to call the police. The subject was described as a Hispanic male in his late 20's to early 30's, approximately 5'3” tall with a medium build, slicked back black hair, dark complexion, last seen wearing a navy blue shirt, a white under shirt, long dark shorts, long white socks and black, rubber soled shoes. At the time of the report, there were fresh cut marks on the lock. Occurred on 05/28/10 at approximately 4:45 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The student did a great job of recognizing the suspicious activity. Once that recognition has occurred, I would recommend a different course of action. In this case, if the student had contacted UTPD at 512-471-4441 as soon as he observed the suspicious activity, then there would have been a strong likelihood that the UT Police Department could have stopped this subject, identified him, ran a check for warrants and police involvements, made an arrest if there was sufficient evidence to do so, or at the very least issued this subject a criminal trespass warning if the subject had no legitimate purpose for being on campus. In the event you recognize suspicious activity, please contact UTPD as soon as possible. To help you with the phone number, program 512-471-4441 into your cell phone. PARKING LOT 14, 2300 Inner Campus Drive Leaving the Scene Collision: A non-UT subject and a UT staff member both reported seeing an unknown subject drive a green 1998 Ford Escort through an exit only lane of the parking lot and park in a parking spot. The driver was later seen returning to her Ford Escort and driving away without leaving driver information. Repair cost: $800.00. FOOD for Thought In today's Campus Watch, we showed what some of the possible punishments could be for the listed property crimes. Often times, people do not think the actions they take are all that serious. Seeing these punishments, it is easy to see that a “simple” or “minor” lapse in judgment could have very long term and costly effects. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 40 Alarm Calls, 2 Fire Alarm Activations, 3 “Police Help” Callbox activations, 5 Light Malfunction reports, 6 Public Assist Requests, 1 Found Property report and 22 Unsecured Door reports between 05/28/10 and 06/01/10.
