Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: In yesterday's issue of the Campus Watch, Officer Pieper did a great job talking about the Identity Theft case from the Main Building. We received several emails from many of the Campus Watch subscribers who provided even more great tips that need to be passed along. Several of you talked about VANs. I would like to add an item to your credit card tips. We (my husband and I) ALWAYS use a virtual account number (VAN) when doing business online or over the phone. The number is a one-time use number that has an expiration date of the following calendar month. We use Citibank so I know that they offer this service. Even if it's a retailer that I have used multiple times (amazon.com, etc.) I always take a few more minutes to log onto my account with Citibank to get a new VAN. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Calls, 1 Accidental Damage Report, 1 Found Property Report, 1 Light Malfunction Report, and 8 Unsecured Door Reports between 06/02/10 and 06/03/10.
