Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice 600 Colorado Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed two non-UT subjects walking along the sidewalk. One of the two subjects was having a difficult time maintaining his balance; particularly while trying to pick-up an item he had dropped. The subject did succumb to the effects of gravity and landed on his back side. While checking on the subject's welfare, the officer noticed the subject had evidence on the front of his pants that proved alcohol has a depressing effect on several bodily functions… like bladder control. During the investigation, the intoxicated subject became very belligerent. The police officer asked the sober friend to calm the intoxicated friend down. After several attempts to do just so, the sober friend gave up and asked the police officer to make the arrest…the officer did. Occurred on 06/17/10 at 2:00 am. Crime Prevention Tip: We have long recommended you take a sober friend with you when you go out for a night on the town. In this case, had the intoxicated friend listened to his sober buddy then he probably would not have slept it off in the county lock-up. It is not enough to bring a sober friend with you – you must listen to them as well. If you are someone else's sober friend, pay attention to this case. If you cannot control an intoxicated friend then be just as wise as this sober friend and turn that responsibility over to someone who can like the police. 1800 Lavaca Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject as stopped for an excessive display of speed and running a red light while driving a 2008 Volkswagon. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was deemed to have been driving while intoxicated. Occurred on 06/17/10 at 2:15 am. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 alarm calls, 2 fire alarm calls, 1 public assist request and 2 unsecured door reports between 06/16/10 and 06/17/10. The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Please complete the form at http://www.utexas.edu/cellphonealert so you will become an integral part of this important emergency notification system and help the university to achieve the highest standards of campus and community safety. Your cell phone number will not be used for. Campus Safety and Security at (512) 471-5767.
