Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 06/24/10 and Friday, 06/25/10. ****Check Out Our New Look**** The UT Police Department would like to invite everyone to check out our new web page that was developed by our friends at Technology Resources. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice PARLIN HALL, #2 South Mall Assault by Contact: A UT student reported getting into a confrontation with another UT student at the conclusion of their class. During the confrontation, the suspect informed the victim that he had found it rude that she had “doodled” while the instructor was talking. The suspect then walked away calling the victim the B-word. When informed that his actions were rude, the suspect moved within inches of the victim and shoved her. The suspect then left the area. The suspect was described as: White male, 6'-0”, chubby with brown hair. Occurred on: 6-24-10, at 4:08 PM. WOOLRICH LABORATORIES, 210 East 24th Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member reported receiving a suspicious email from an unknown individual claiming to be with the FBI. The email contained an attached letter that the staff member was directed to and was asked to open. The staff member became suspicious of the wording within the header line as well as the wording for the attached letter. During the investigation, the officer learned the FBI office was aware of the email and had identified it as a scam since financial information is asked for. Occurred on: 6-24-10, at 9:11 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: These types of emails have become increasingly popular with thieves. The FBI has set up a web site were online scams can be reported to The Internet Complaint Center at www.IC3.gov. The reporting staff member in this case did a very good job in detecting the suspicious email and not opening the attachment. 1500 BLOCK EAST MANOR Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a white Pontiac parked in such a way that it was blocking a garage entrance. The officer noted the vehicle's headlamps were turned on and the engine was running. The driver was slumped over the driver's seat…sleeping. Once the subject awoke, the officer asked the non-UT subject for her license and was handed a high heel shoe. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and observed several clues that indicated the driver was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-25-10, at 2:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 alarm calls, 4 Call Box Alarm, 2 Fire Alarms, and 2 unsecured door reports between 06/24/10 and 06/25/10.
