Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 06/28/10 and Tuesday, 06/29/10. ****New Service Brought to You by UTPD**** If you have checked out our new look webpage, then you may already know about a new service brought to you by UTPD. You can now register your personal property on the UT Police Department website. Visit our website to register your laptop computer, MP3 player, cell phone, camera, game system, television set…just about anything. You will be asked to enter your property's make, model, color and serial number. Registering your property makes a record of important information that is very beneficial in a theft investigation or in returning lost property to its rightful owner. Without identifying information, recovering stolen property is virtually impossible. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice CLARK FIELD, 300 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as appearing to have passed out on the northeast side of Clark Field. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had simply set up a temporary campsite and was spending the night. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 6-28-10, at 6:46 AM. FACILITIES COMPLEX, 1301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A UT staff member reported two unknown individuals were loading scrap metal and copper into the bed of a red Chevy truck. When the unknown subjects realized they were being observed, they sped off. The first subject was described as: a White or Hispanic male, thin build, last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. The second subject was described as: a White or Hispanic female, heavy set, last seen wearing a white t-shirt and shorts. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 6-28-10, at 11:00 PM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A white SK Telecom flashdrive was reported stolen from a computer located inside the first floor computer lab. During the investigation, the officer learned the flashdrive had been left attached to the computer once the student had completed working on a project. Loss value: $10.00. Occurred on: 6-28-10, between 12:10 PM and 1:07 PM. PERRY-CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member reported two non-UT subjects had taken two tables and some chairs and had created a pallet for sleeping. During the investigation, the officers learned one subject had received a prior Criminal Trespass Warning and was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass. During a search, incidental to his arrest, the subject was found in possession of an Apple laptop computer . The officers confirmed the computer was reported stolen. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the second subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 6-28-10, at 9:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 10 Alarm Calls,1 Fire Alarms, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Public Assist Requests, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report between 06/28/10 and 06/29/10. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that covers assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
