Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 07/07/10 and Thursday, 07/08/10. ****New Service Brought to You by UTPD**** UTPD is happy to announce online property registration. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice ACES BUILDING, 201 East 24th Street Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject attempted to removed a window in order to access a secure door. Damage value: $150.00. Discovered on: 7-07-10, at 3:41 PM. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd. Assault with Bodily Injuries / Family Violence: A non-UT subject reported a UT student had had grabbed her by the ankles and forced her to the floor. The victim stated as she was being pulled from the bed onto the floor, her head hit a metal bed frame causing physical pain. The suspect informed the officers that he had been arguing with the victim, but failed to mention that he had dragged her from the bed onto the floor. The suspect was taken into custody for Assualt with Bodily injury / Family Violence and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-07-10, at 10:30 AM. J. J. “JAKE” PICKEL RESEARCH CENTER, 10,100 Burnet Road Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered the north entrance gate had been damaged. During the investigation, the officer observed one of the fence poles had been struck by an unknown vehicle. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 7-07-10, at 7:00 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Graffiti: Words written in black indelible marker was discovered inside a first floor men's restroom. Damage Loss: $50.00. Discovered on: 7-08-10, at 2:23 AM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT Freshman Orientation student was walking around the ground level of the Brazos Parking Garage while clad in only a pair green plaid Underoos. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and learned the subject had been attending a fraternity rush party where he lost his clothes. The subject informed the officers that he had walked two miles back to campus and was not sure where he was at the time. The officers determined the subject was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming adult beverages. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was escorted back to the dormitory and was released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 7-08-10 at 7:01 AM. STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 West Dean Keeton Suspicious Activity / Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving several harassing and threatening telephone calls from an unknown caller that claimed the staff member was delinquent on a loan. The caller then threatened the staff member when the staff member told him not to call her at work. The unknown caller then contacted a co-workee and began asking personal questions about the staff member whom he had been harassing. He wanted to know where the staff member parked her personal vehicle and what were her work hours. Occurred on: 7-07-10 between 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: These staff members did a good job with this situation. There is one additional thing you can do if you find yourself in a similar situation. After hanging up on the harassing caller, pick up the phone's receiver and dial *57. In most cases this feature will trap the last in-coming telephone number. Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 Alarm Calls, 1 Public Assist Request, 2 Fire Alarm Reports, 1 EMS call, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 07/07/10 and 07/08/10.
