Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 07/28/10 and Thursday, 07/29/10. ****New Service Brought to You by UTPD**** UTPD is happy to announce online property registration. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING B, 2504-B Whitis Ave Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject grab a 12-oz cup of beer and attempt to walk into a event located on the 6th floor. The subject was stopped by a UT volunteer and was asked for his ID. The subject opened up his wallet and the Police Officer saw the subject using his thumb to cover the picture on the ID. The officer observed he was being handed a counterfeit DL and requested the subject’s real Texas Driver’s License. The subject produced a second Texas DL that had been issued to him. The officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21 and issued him a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 7-28-10, at 8:15 PM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a known offender camping out and sleeping inside the library. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had 4 outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass warning. Occurred on: 7-28-10, at 11:51 AM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Ave Burglary of Motor Vehicle / Criminal Mischief (2 Counts): A UT student observed an unknown subject inside his friend’s vehicle, that was parked on the 2nd level of the garage. The student asked the suspect what he was doing. The suspect informed the student that he was “inside his own vehicle.” When confronted the suspect walked away then began to sprint away when the reporting student notified the police. During the investigation, the officers, discovered three vehicles with broken windows, a blue Honda, white Acura and a tan Chevy. The officers located the owners and learned a red wallet containing $4.00 in cash and personal identification had been stolen out of one of the vehicles. The owners of the other two vehicles stated they did not leave any personal items or property inside their vehicles. The unknown suspect was described as: Hispanic male, 5’-6”, 20-30 years of age, darker complected, Spanish accent. Was last seen wearing a blue and white stripped shirt and blue jeans. Loss value: $150.00. per window. Loss value (personal property) $19.00. Occurred on: 7-25-10, at 3:30 PM. 700 BLOCK CLYDE LITTLEFIELD Public Intoxication / Criminal Trespass Warning / Resisting Arrest / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed staggering and swaying back and forth as he attempted to maintain his bearing and navigate in navigational beacons. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s person and noted other signs of intoxication. When the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication, the officers learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Failing to Register. As the subject was being taken into custody, he began resisting the officers to a point where he was helped to the ground and the handcuffs were applied. The subject was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 7-28-10, at 6:41 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Theft: A UT staff member reported a black Trek mountain bicycle and it’s saddle bag containing electronic equipment were stolen after being left unsecured and leaning next to the Parking and Traffic traffic control kiosk. Loss value: $4025.00. Occurred on: 7-28-10 between 12:15 PM and 12:45 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 15 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Welfare Call, and 5 Unsecured Door Reports between 07/28/10 and 07/29/10.
