Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 08/18/10 and Thursday, 08/19/10. ****New Service Brought to You by UTPD**** UTPD is happy to announce online property registration. Items with a serial number such as laptops, MP3 players, cell phones, electronics, and bikes are eligible. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. Without identifying information, recovering stolen property is virtually impossible. Come join us on Face Book at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/utaustinpolice MANOR PARKING GARAGE, 2017 Robert Dedman Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member discovered a Parking and Transportation citation had been affixed to the window of a P&T vehicle parked inside the garage. An unknown individual had penned a short note directed at two current employees. Occurred on: 8-18-10, at 11:23 PM. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A Husky 55HP generator was stolen from the bed of a Ford truck after the chain and lock securing it was cut. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred between: 8-17-2010, at 10:00 PM and 8-18-10, at 8:29 PM. 600 BLOCK CLYDE LITTLEFIELD Driving Without a License / Failed to Maintain Financial Repsonsibility: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT staff member and a non-UT subject had been involved in a collision. During the investigation, the officer learned the staff member had been riding a bicycle, but had been passing vehicles on the right side as another vehicle was turning right into a parking lot. The bicyclist struct the passenger door of the truck. As the investigation continued, the officer learned the non-UT driver did not possess a current Driver’s License or current insurance. Occurred on: 8-18-10, at 8:54 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This collision is one of those that could have easily been avoided. Both vehicles and bicyclists are required to obey the same traffic laws in the State of Texas. When you are on a two lane road, one lane of traffic in each direction, you can pass to the left if the roadway in sections so designated, but never on the right side. Bicyclist tend to forget that their bike is considered a vehicle. With that being said, traffic laws are enforceable and can affect your insurance rates. Tomorrow is the start of Moove-In, and by the end of the weekend there will be an increase in the number of bicyclists on campus. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: For the parents of this year's incoming freshman class, the countdown for the fall 2010 semester has started. There are 1 day left before the first day of Moove-In. There are several things that you can start doing to get your student ready. - All property is engraved with a State issued DL or ID number and registered on line. - Bicycle is registered with Parking and Transportation and a two lock locking system is being used to secure the bike to a bike rack. - Have you registered for the Women’s Self Defense class? - Has your child developed a safety plan? - Have you pre-programmed the UTPD telephone number into your cellular telephone? If not the number is 512-471-4441. - Double check to ensure you are signed up for the emergency text messaging system.
