Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 08/23/10 and Tuesday, 08/24/10. ****New Service Brought to You by UTPD**** UTPD is happy to announce online property registration. Items with a serial number such as laptops, MP3 players, cell phones, electronics, and bikes are eligible. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. Without identifying information, recovering stolen property is virtually impossible. Logon to https://www.utexas.edu/police/property/ to register your property today. MCCOMBS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 2110 Speedway Suspicious Person: A UT staff member reported an unknown subject entered into her office claiming he wanted to set up an endowment to save the world. During the course of the conversation, the subject began to talk about credit scores, student parking and wanting to write a letter to President Obama about people being able to borrow money. After expressing himself, the subject was escorted from the area. The unknown subject was described as: Asian male, 22-25 years of age, 5’-08”, 140 pounds, with black hair. He was last seen wearing a blue and green plaid pair of shorts, white polo shirt, flip flops and carrying a laptop computer case. Occurred on: 8-23-10, at 4:22 PM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave. Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported an unknown subject had cut her self locking cable lock, then placed two new locks securing her property to the bike rack. The student was in the process of obtaining information to verify ownership. Occurred on: 8-23-10, at 1:55 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: . One of the hardest calls a Police Officer has to make is attempting to identify property ownership. At the start of summer UTPD launched a new On-Line Registration program, this is a companion program to the Make Your Mark. Both programs are designed to aid in not only the recovery of stolen property and theft deterrence, but can also aid an individual in proving ownership. Come by the Police Department and check out an engraver free of charge. Take a few minutes and engrave your State issued driver’s license or ID number onto all of your property. After completing this task logon to the following website and register your property with the University of Texas Police Department. www.utexas.edu/police/property Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: For the students of this year's incoming freshman class, there are several things that you can start doing to get ready for the first day of class.. - All property is engraved with a State issued DL or ID number and registered on line. www.utexas.edu/police/property - Bicycle is registered with Parking and Transportation and a two lock locking system is being used to secure the bike to a bike rack. - Have you registered for the Women’s Self Defense class? - Has you developed a safety plan? - Have you pre-programmed the UTPD telephone number into your cellular telephone? If not the number is 512-471-4441. - Double check to ensure you are signed up for the emergency text messaging system.
