Currently 1,474 items having been registered. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A black and yellow colored Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike rack located on the northeast portion of the building after being secured with two self-locking cable locks. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 8-21-10 and 8-24-10. Crime Prevention Tip: We recommend a two-lock locking system. This locking system consists of two separate and different locks. The primary lock is a good U-shaped lock that uses a flat key. This lock secures the lock to the bike rack. The second lock used is a self-locking cable lock. This lock secures the back tire to the bike frame. Last night Officer Pieper and I were working the Engineering Student’s Fall Festival when we were approached by a UT student. The student told us that she had arrived to campus on Saturday. This student also lives at Duren Hall. We were informed that sometime between Saturday night and Sunday someone had attempted to steal her bicycle, which was secured at these same bike racks. She thanked both of us for the information we had given her during freshman orientation, because the cable lock on her bicycle had been cut through. She told us the U-shaped lock had prevented her bicycle from being stolen. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student heard her roommate having an exteme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The student found her roommate sitting on the shower floor not being responsive. UT Police Officers arrived and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the UT student’s breath and the wafting aroma of vomit. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning. During the investigation, the officers learned the student was in the process of pledging a sorority. Occurred on: 8-25-10, at 3:43 AM. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside an established campsite located on the southwest side of the building. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 8-24-10, at 5:56 PM. COMMUNICATION BUILDING C, 2504-C Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject observed another non-UT subject enter into the building, remain for a few minutes then leave the area. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and learned he had been issued several prior Criminal Trespass Warnings over the last couple of years. The officers also discovered the subject had and outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for the outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 8-24-10, at 6:05 PM. When the students observed the police vehicle, they quickly attempted to hide the framed pictured behind a tree. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students. Both stated they were pledging a fraternity and had wanted to make a name for themselves so they had been to another fraternity house located in the 2500 Block Nueces and removed the two framed pictures. As the investigation continued, one student informed the officers that he did not have his driver’s license with him and provided a name that was later determined to have been made up when the officer located the subject’s wallet. A wallet that contained two valid driver’s licenses. The student was taken into custody for Failure to Identify / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was transported to Central Booking. The second student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released at the scene. Charges for Theft are still pending. Occurred on: 8-25-10, at 2:47 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: If you have not noticed there has been an increase in the number of bicycles that have been reported stolen. The northwest portion of campus: Duren Hall, Living Learning Center and Kinsolving have been impacted the most. However, I have seen a number of cut locks around San Jacinto Residents Hall and Jester. The bike thieves are back and it seems that they are making up for a slow summer. If you see an individual in the bike racks attempting to cut a lock notify the Police Department. That telephone call can earn you a pizza of your choice. There is one other sad fact with the number of reported stolen bicycles since Moove-In began. Only one of the stolen bicycle was registered with Parking and Transportation. Take a minute and go to Parking and Transportation’s website. http://www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/registration.html CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 18 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box Alarm, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Public Assist requests, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 08/24/10 and 08/25/10.
