WEST MALL, 2300 Block Guadalupe Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was observed stopping students and asking them for money. The subject was handing students a hand written note, on an old envelope, asking them to donate money to the American Deaf Association. During the investigation, the subject insisted on asking the officer to simply let him go and he would never return to campus and ask students for money. The officer soon learned why the subject was insistent on leaving. The subject had received several prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings in a number of locations for the same actions. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 8-25-10, at 12:15 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This subject has been soliciting students and staff for a number of years with the same type of scam. The main reason he returns year in and year out there will always be someone that will fall prey to his story and separate themselves from their money. It is a violation of a Regent’s Rule for unauthorized individuals to enter onto campus and begin soliciting money from any UT student, staff or faculty member without the expressed consent of the University of Texas. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxiation: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject passed out on the south steps leading into CTJ. When the officers arrived the subject was sitting in the middle of what could only be described as a “Splash Zone.” The subject was wearing most of the evidence on the front of shirt and pants. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted he could not keep his eyes open. Austin EMS was notified and transported the subject to a local area hospital. Charges for Public Intoxication were filed. Occurred on: 8-26-10, at 12:25 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: If you have not noticed there has been an increase in the number of bicycles that have been reported stolen. The northwest portion of campus: Duren Hall, Living Learning Center and Kinsolving have been impacted the most. However, I have seen a number of cut locks around San Jacinto Residents Hall and Jester. The bike thieves are back and it seems that they are making up for a slow summer. If you see an individual in the bike racks attempting to cut a lock notify the Police Department. That telephone call can earn you a pizza of your choice. There is one other sad fact regarding the number of reported stolen bicycles since Moove-In began. Only one of the stolen bicycle was registered with Parking and Transportation. Take a minute and go to Parking and Transportation’s website. http://www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/registration.html CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Calls, 2 Call Box Alarms, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Public Assist requests, and 1 Unsecured Door Report between 08/25/10 and 08/26/10.
