Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 08-30-10 and Tuesday, 08-31-10. Featured Service Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. Please complete the form at http://www.utexas.edu/cellphonealert so you will become an integral part of this important emergency notification system and help the university to achieve the highest standards of campus and community safety. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 Block Martin Luther King Blvd. Graffiti: Words written in white paint were discovered on the trash disposal unit located on the southeast portion of the building. Repair value: $50.00. Discovered on: 8-31-10, at 3:36 AM. 2100 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Resisting Arrest / Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was discovered passed out on a heavily used pedestrian walkway with his bicycle laying on top of him. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person. When the officers were able to wake the student up, the student became combative and refused to comply with the officers directions. Several times the student attempted to stand up and leave the area. When the student was taken into custody for Public Intoxicaton, he began resisting with the officers. The subject was transported to Central Booking, where upon he began charging at other officers inside the jail. Charges for Resisting Arrest and Public Intoxication were filed. The officer was nice and chose not to file additional charges of Assault on a Police Officer or Consumption of Alchohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 8-30-10, at 10:30 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 33 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box Alarm, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Public Assist request, 3 EMS calls, and 3 Unsecured Door Reports between 08/27/10 and 08/30/10.
