Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 09-07-10 and Wednesday, 09-08-10. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * You are cordially invited to attend The University of Texas at Austin Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a course designed to give the public a better understanding of the Police Department. The goal of the Academy is to increase rapport between the Police Department and our community by providing citizens with enough information to dispel any suspicions or misconceptions they may have about the police. The Citizen Police Academy begins on Monday, October 4, 2010, and continues every Monday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for seven weeks concluding on November 15, 20010. Attendance at six of the seven nights is required for graduation. Applicants are subject to criminal background check. If you are interested in attending the Citizen Police Academy please complete the attached application and email Captain Don Verett at don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. The deadline to apply is September 29, 2010 and class size is limited. Robert E. Dahlstrom Chief of Police Safe Strides Beginning tomorrow night, 9-09-10, the University of Texas Police Dpeartment will be unvailing a new program at 8:00 PM. Safe Strides is designed as a walking tour of campus with a strong emphasis towards safety. AT&T EXECUTIVE CONFERENCING CENTER, 1900 University Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject walked into an meeting and began helping himself to the food and drinks that had been set out for the conference attendees. The subject became confrountational when asked if he belonged with the conference. During the investigation, the officers detected a modertate odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and learned he did not have legitimate business inside the AT&T Center. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-07-10, at 6:01 PM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Theft: A white colored Huffy mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking chain lock. Loss value: $75.00. Occurred between: 9-03-10 and 9-07-10. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student reported being approached by an unknown subject as she was walking from PCL back to Moore-Hill Dormitory. The subject attempted to befriend her and began asking questions. The subject then suggested, to the student, that they sit in his car and talk. The student declined the offer and walked away. The unknown subject was described as: Middle Eastern male, dark skin, 5’-08”, medium build, black hair with a receding hairline, spoke with an accent. The subject was last seen wearing a long sleeve black shirt, pants, and white shoes. Occurred on: 9-07-10 at 9:57 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the second incident involving this type of activity within the last couple of days near the dormitories. If approached by a stranger, simply walk away. Call the police as soon as you can to report the incident. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Theft: A black Apple iPhone with a blue case was stolen after being left unattended and unsecured outside a1st floor classroom. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had left her property on top of a table while other students were standing around. Loss value: $275.00. Occurred on: 9-07-10, between 12:30 PM and 12:35 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: It does not take hours for your property to be stolen. It can be stolen in a matter of minutes when the opportunity presents itself. Take a few minutes and register your property at: www.utexas.edu/police/property CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 58 Alarm Calls, 2 Call Box Alarms, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 Public Assist requests, 3 EMS calls, and 9 Unsecured Door Reports between 09/07/10 and 09/08/10.
