Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 09-08-10 and Thursday, 09-09-10. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * You are cordially invited to attend The University of Texas at Austin Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a course designed to give the public a better understanding of the Police Department. The goal of the Academy is to increase rapport between the Police Department and our community by providing citizens with enough information to dispel any suspicions or misconceptions they may have about the police. The Citizen Police Academy begins on Monday, October 4, 2010, and continues every Monday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for seven weeks concluding on November 15, 20010. Attendance at six of the seven nights is required for graduation. Applicants are subject to criminal background check. If you are interested in attending the Citizen Police Academy please complete the attached application and email Captain Don Verett at don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. The deadline to apply is September 29, 2010 and class size is limited. Robert E. Dahlstrom Chief of Police ****New Program**** Safe Strides Tonight, 9-09-10, the University of Texas Police Department will be unvailing a new program at 8:00 PM. Safe Strides is designed as a walking tour where you will learn simple tips and procedures to help keep you safe while striding across campus. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported, after receiving the Security Alert on the suspicious male seen around PCL, she recognized the description as the same subject she had encounted at enternce to Kinsolving Dormitorty in late August. Occurred on: 8-27-10. Reported 9-8-10. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A blue Specialized mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the dormitory after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 9-03-10, and 9-08-10. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A green Schwinn single speed road bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northwest side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $295.00. Occurred between: 9-03-10 and 9-08-10. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A black and blue Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after securing only the front tire to the bike rack. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred between: 9-07-10 and 9-08-10 UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Graffiti: An animal, drawn in pink aerosol spray paint was discovered in the breezeway between the elevators and the vending machines. Repair est: $100.00. Discovered on: 9-09-10, at 2:09 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Possession of Marijuana: A UT Police Officer saw a Honda exceeding the posted speed limit. During the traffic investigation, the officer saw the driver attempt to hide an object under his backpack. The officer saw a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance. The substance tested positive for marijuana. The student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Marijuana and was released at the scene. The marijuana was confiscated. Occurred on: 9-09-10, at 2:10 AM. 2100 BLOCK SAN GABRIEL Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject reported being assaulted by his girlfriend at an off campus location. During the investigation, the officer learned the suspect had punched the victim in the back after he was accussed of being disrespectful. The suspect then informed the victim that it was socially acceptable for a female to slap a male. Due to the location of the offense the Austin Police were notified. Reported on: 9-09-10, at 12:58 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: In the State of Texas it is not socially acceptable to hit anyone. Especially while in a relationship with that person. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 32 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box Alarm, 1 Public Assist request, 1 EMS call, and 7 Unsecured Door Reports between 09/08/10 and 09/09/10.
