The Citizen Police Academy begins on Monday, October 4, 2010, and continues every Monday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for seven weeks concluding on November 15, 20010. Attendance at six of the seven nights is required for graduation. Applicants are subject to criminal background check. The deadline to apply is September 29, 2010 and class size is limited. Robert E. Dahlstrom Chief of Police ALMETRIS DUREN RESIDENCE HALL, 2624 Whitis Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as “calling out to young girls” and making them feel “unsafe” as they walked by the dormitory. Responding officers located a subject matching the description given by the reporting person leaving the area. When the subject was stopped, he became defensive and dialed 9-1-1 to report being “stopped and harassed” by the UT Police Department. Talk about you quick response; he called 9-1-1 and poof – a cop stood before him. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 09/16/10 at 11:15 pm. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Theft: A silver and yellow Trek bicycle was stolen while it was “secured” to the bicycle racks located on the northeast side of the building. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on 09/16/10 between 9:15 am and 1:00 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: This theft occurred sometime during the day in an area that is somewhat heavily travelled. I encourage everyone to be more aware of their surroundings when they walk across campus. If you see something that makes you think to yourself, “Should I call the police?” then yes, you should call the police. If your call results in the police finding a thief, then UTPD will deliver a pizza to you free of charge. We will make this delivery when and where you want it. To help with calling the police as soon as possible, make sure you save the UTPD police dispatcher number into your cell phone. UTPD can be reached 24-hours per day; 7 days a week at 512-471-4441. JESTER CENTER EAST, 203 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT student was staggering as she attempted to walk. The responding officers located a female student, who was under the age of 21, in her dorm room. The student showed classic signs of having consumed alcoholic beverages. Occurred on 09/17/10 at 1:01 am. MUSIC BUILDING & RECITAL HALL, 2406 Robert Dedman Theft / Criminal Mischief: A black and “rusted” Mishiki 10-speed bicycle was stolen when it was “secured” with a cable lock to the bicycle racks located on the south side of the building. During the investigation, another bicycle was discovered in the same bicycle racks with a cut cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between 09/15/10 at 5:00 pm and 09/16/10 at 7:30 am. PENICK-ALLISON TENNIS CENTER, 1701 Trinity Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported as sleeping in the tennis courts on the east side of the property. The subject was located awakened and promptly issued a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on 09/16/10 at 7:13 am. ROBERT LEE MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Criminal Mischief: A police officer discovered the cable locks to three bicycles located at the bicycle racks located on the southwest side of the building had been cut. The bicycles were still at the bicycle racks. The owners of the bicycles were not able to be contacted at the time of the report. Discovered on 09/16/10 at 12:30 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: Reading this caper and the one from the Music Recital Hall above, one must wonder if there is someone cutting multiple locks at one time and coming back to the same bike racks over a period of time to steal the bicycles. If this is true, make sure you are keeping an eye on your bicycle. Check you bicycle periodically. Make sure your bicycle is still there and that the lock is in good working order. Want an even better recommendation? If you are only using a cable lock to secure your bicycle, invest in a quality u-lock. Use both locks at the same time. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported as being “passed out” in the northwest stairwell between the 1st and 2nd level.
