Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 09/21/10 and Wednesday, 09/22/10. ****Program Alert**** Next Week, The UT Counseling and Mental Health Center will be hosting a Suicide Prevention Week in which special events will be held every day of the week. Each event draws attention to this topic and what each of us can do to better understand this issue. Please see the attached advertisement regarding next week’s activities. ****Citizen’s Police Academy**** You are cordially invited to attend The University of Texas at Austin Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a course designed to give the public a better understanding of the Police Department. The goal of the Academy is to increase rapport between the Police Department and our community by providing citizens with enough information to dispel any suspicions or misconceptions they may have about the police. The Citizen Police Academy begins on Monday, October 4, 2010, and continues every Monday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for seven weeks concluding on November 15, 20010. Attendance at six of the seven nights is required for graduation. Applicants are subject to criminal background check. If you are interested in attending the Citizen Police Academy please complete the attached application and email Captain Don Verett at don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. The deadline to apply is September 29, 2010 and class size is limited. Robert E. Dahlstrom Chief of Police CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER, 2205 Comal Street Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member reported an unknown subject walked up to the fence and began talking to several of the children that were playing. The subject turned his back to the children and “mule kicked” the fence and walked away. None of the children were injured. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, no shirt, tan pants, with salt and pepper colored hair. Occurred on: 9-21-10, at 10:33 AM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Criminal Trespass / Disorderly Conduct- Lewd Conduct: A UT staff member reported seeing a man’s hand and hairy arms on the floor inside a women’s restroom located on the second floor. During the investigation, the officers located a non-UT male subject inside a locked stall. The subject exited the stall and informed the officers that he was in the wrong bathroom. The officer soon learned the subject had received a prior written Criminal Trespass warning for the same area, for the same behavior. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and Disorderly Conduct and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-21-10, at 12:21 PM. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Theft: An Apple iPhone tucked securely inside a black and purple case was stolen from inside a backpack. The backpack was hanging on a wall inside a 5th floor lab while the student was working. During the investigation, officers learned the student did not know the serial number for her phone. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 9-21-10, between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Thieves look for opportunities. Never leave your property unattended. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity Calls, 4 Medical Emergency Assist, 2 Welfare Concerns, and 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 5 Unsecured Doors between 09/21/10 and 09/22/10.
