Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 09/23/10 and Friday, 09/24/10. ****Citizen’s Police Academy**** You are cordially invited to attend The University of Texas at Austin Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a course designed to give the public a better understanding of the Police Department. The goal of the Academy is to increase rapport between the Police Department and our community by providing citizens with enough information to dispel any suspicions or misconceptions they may have about the police. The Citizen Police Academy begins on Monday, October 4, 2010, and continues every Monday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for seven weeks concluding on November 15, 20010. Attendance at six of the seven nights is required for graduation. Applicants are subject to criminal background check. If you are interested in attending the Citizen Police Academy please complete the attached application and email Captain Don Verett at don.verett@austin.utexas.edu. The deadline to apply is September 29, 2010 and class size is limited. Robert E. Dahlstrom Chief of Police ANDREWS DORMITORY, 2401 Whitis Ave. Theft: A black and blue Samsung Rant cellular telephone was reported stolen from inside a bookbag. During the investigation, the officers learned the bookbag was in the same vicinity of the victim. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 9-23-10, between 12:45 PM and 4:45 PM. BIOMEDICAL ENGEERING BUILDING, 107 West Dean Keeton Theft: A Milwaukee drill, Milwaukee power drill, batteries, and chargers were stolen from inside the construction site. Loss value: $140.00. Occurred on: 9-22-10, 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. ERNEST COCKRELL JR. HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A UT student reported getting a telephone call from his bank to verify a charge. At that time the student discovered his credit card number had been stolen along with his personal identification. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had fallen asleep inside the ECJ library and his wallet had been taken off the table and somehow ended up in the Lost and Found. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 9-23-10, between 1:15 PM and 3:30 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning / Theft of Service: A non-UT subject was observed entering into GRE without purchasing a guest pass for the day. During the investigation, the officers located the subject on another floor. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-23-10, at 7:01 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black leather wallet containing personal identification, credit cards and undetermined amount of cash was stolen from an unsecured locker inside the 2nd floor men’s locker room. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 9-23-10, between 2:30 PM and 3:10 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A silver and orange colored bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a chain and pad lock. Loss value: $60.00. Occurred between: 9-07-10 and 9-24-10. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported feeling air blowing in under her bed sheets, then felt the sheets move. The student discovered a white male standing over her. The subject turned and left the room. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 5’-10” with short hair. The subject was last seen wearing a tee shirt and basketball shorts. Occurred on: 9-23-10, at 5:30 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: This tip is a MUST. Lock your door, even when you are inside you room. You never know who is going to visit you at night. PARLIN HALL, #2 South Mall Theft: A black Kona hybrid mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred on: 9-21-10, between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE, 2515 Speedway Theft: A grey Marlin mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 9-22-10, between 6:10 PM and 7:55 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A shirtless non-UT subject was observed utilized several well placed poles and planter boxes to aid him as he staggered along the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officers noticed the subject had several bruises on his forehead, and cuts on his elbow. Due to the subject’s appearance, Austin EMS was notified. The subject was treated at the scene and was transported to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 9-24-10, at 4:09 AM. 300 BLOCK DEAN KEETON Criminal Mischief / Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject observed two UT students inside the construction site. It appeared as if the subjects were stealing items from the site. When the officer entered the site, both subjects took off running and were surprised that there were more officers on the other side of the fence waiting for them to exit. Both students were taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and were transported to Central Booking. During the investigation, the officers learned the students had been discharging fire extinguishers while in the site. Additional charges of Criminal Mischief were filed. Occurred on: 9-24-10, at 2:50 AM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Theft / Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject walking around inside a bike rack. The subject became very nervous and dropped a small pair of wire cutters into an ash tray. During the investigation, the subject explained that he had forgotten to bring the key to his cousin’s bike lock and explained how he was going to take the bike home and pick up him up later. The officer noticed the lock required a combination to unlock it and also noticed there was damage to the lock. The owner, a UT student walked up while the officers were talking to the suspect, and identified his property. The non-subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken the subject had two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. Occurred on: 9-24-10, at 12:11 AM CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 18 Alarm Calls, 4 Suspicious Activity Calls, 1 Welfare Concern, and 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 1 Unsecured Door between 09/23/10 and 09/24/10.
