Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 09/29/10 and Thursday, 09/30/10. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * The University of Texas at Austin experienced a tragedy the other day on campus. With any incident a great many things are learned. Many students, staff and faculty members received the emergency text messages / alerts / or heard alerts that were broadcasted over the Outdoor Campus Wide notification system that were sent out during the incident. This led to a great deal of cooperation with the UT community as the police officers worked their way through the buildings. Dahlstrom Chief of Police ENGINEERING SCIENCE BUILDING, 2501 Speedway Theft: An Apple MacBook and Apple IPod touch were stolen from an unsecured office located on the 5th floor. Loss value: $1,150.00. Occurred between: 9-21-10 and 9-29-10. LITTLEFIELD DORMITORY, 201 West Dean Keeton Terroristic Threat: A UT student reported receiving threatening messages on her Face Book account after she responded to a friend’s posting on an event. Occurred on: 9-28-10. NORTH END ZONE, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: A pink and tan wallet containing personal identification, several credit cards and $4.00 in cash were stolen after being left unsecured on top of a table next to one of the businesses. Loss value: $24.00. Occurred on: 9-29-10 between 10:45 AM and 12:00 PM. SUTTON HALL, 210 West 21st Street Theft: A blue Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of Sutton Hall after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss Value: $1,200.00. Occurred on: 9-29-10 between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. WOOLRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Theft: A Hewlett Packard Pavilion laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured first floor office. During the investigation, the officer learned the computer had been placed under the desk and was not visible to anyone standing in the hallway. The office had been left unsecured while the student was conducting business in other parts of the building. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 9-29-10, between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM. 600 RIO GRANDE Public Intoxication (2 Counts): Four UT Police Officers observed a non-UT male and female stagger into a local downtown business and sit down at booth. The officers noted both subjects were highly intoxicated. The officers noted that the female passed out and the male got up and walked out of the building and did not return. The officer located the male passed out in the alley behind the building. During the investigation the officers took both subjects into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. The female became upset that she was going to the Iron-Bar Hotel and not to the hotel she had planned on staying in. Occurred on: 9-30-10, at 4:07 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 19 Alarm Calls, 1 Suspicious Activity Calls, and 5 Unsecured Door between 09/29/10 and 09/30/10.
