FACILITIES COMPLEX BUILDING 2, 1301 Dean Keeton Theft: A UT staff member reported seeing an unknown subject drive a grey sedan vehicle to the northside of building 2. The subject exited the vehicle, stole an unknown amount of copper wiring that had been left beside a storage bin. The subject placed the copper wire in the vehicle and drove away. Before the staff member could report the theft, the staff member observed the same subject return to the location in the same vehicle and commit a second theft of copper wiring. The subject was described as a Hispanic or Black female in her 30’s, approximately 5’5” tall, shoulder length black hair with an “athletic frame.” The subject was last seen wearing a white t-shirt. Occurred on 09/30/10 between 12:15 pm and 12:23 pm. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Suspicious Activity: A UT student arrived at the Police Department front lobby to report two unknown subjects had been following her since she left a grocery store located on Red River Street. The student stated she observed the two subjects inside the store and again by the check-out lane. The student went on to say the subjects drove up the traffic lane she was parked in and parked their older model white 4 door sedan. As the student left the parking lot, the subjects followed her in their car. The subject took a winding route from the grocery store to the UT Police Department where the subjects stopped following her and drove east on Clyde Littlefield. The first subject was described as a Hispanic male with an average build, short hair cut, mustache and wearing a dark blue t-shirt. The second subject was described as a Hispanic male with a stocky build, facial hair and wearing a dark colored t-shirt. Reported on 09/30/10 at 9:31 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: In this case, the student did several things very well. She made several direction changes to confirm her suspicion that she was being followed and to try and loose her pursuers. She also drove to her nearest police department which led to the two individuals driving away. The only other tip I could convey would be to use your cell phone to contact the police department to let them know you believe you are being followed, provide a description of the pursuers and to let them know you will be leading them to the police department. WHITAKER FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The left rear window was broken out of a silver colored Jeep Liberty while the Jeep was parked in the west parking lot. A black backpack a TI 89 Calculator, a Sony USB thumbdrive, a pair of brown cargo shorts, notebooks and a black bi-fold wallet with $40 in cash, 2 credit cards and various identification cards was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Loss value: $195.00. Occurred on 09/30/10 between 6:40 pm and 10:00 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: A car burglary like this one takes just a few seconds to complete. Many car burglars can commit this type of crime quickly, quietly and without drawing attention to the car. To help prevent your car form being burglarized, never, ever leave anything inside your parked car.
