Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 10/01/10 and Monday, 10/04/10. The UT Student Government and The UT Police Department is pleased to announce the beginning of UT’s Safety Week and National Night Out activities have started. See the list of activities and locations then come out and join us for a full week of fun and informative activities regarding safety, security, health and wellness. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 10 am to 4 pm Speedway Pedestrian Mall between 10 am and 1 pm Shattered Dreams Mock DWI Collision Scene See a response to a Mock DWI collision scene where representatives of the fire department, EMS and police department work a mock collision scene. This event will happen between 10 am and 11 am. STAR Cart: Join a representative from the Austin Police Department and drive a course in a golf cart while wearing “Beer Goggles” to see how you perform while under the influence of alcohol. This event will run from 11 am to 1 pm. Gregory Gym Plaza from 1 pm to 4 pm The Main Campus’ National Night Out Event “Oktoberfest – It’s All About the Root Beer” Come tap a Root Beer Keg and enjoy free sausage while you participate in a variety of activities including a “Beer Goggle” football toss game, Make Your Mark Engraving Table. Obtain valuable health and safety information at an extensive information fair. Take your opportunity to win one of many door prizes, register your bicycle, or dunk a representative from the UT Parking and Transportation Office in a dunk tank. That’s right we will have ticket writers perched in a dunk tank. Take home a souvenir in the form of a photo booth picture of your day. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 10 am to 1 pm Speedway Pedestrian Mall Law Enforcement Expo – come visit with representatives from the UT Police Department and the Austin Police Department as they show off their tools of the trade. See a TASER Demonstration, a K-9 unit or visit with Austin Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit or Bomb Squad. Take this opportunity to visit with and ask police officers questions you have regarding this noble profession. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 6 pm to 7:30 pm Jester Center West (Texas Cultures Room) Dinner With The Chiefs Join UT Police Chief Robert Dahlstrom and Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo for an evening of food and questions. Feel free to bring your questions for the Chiefs as you will have an opportunity to ask them topics on your mind regarding Austin and UT safety, security and law enforcement. Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 11 am to 2 pm West Mall Health and Wellness Fair Come out for a day of Health and Wellness at an informational fair where you can receive a variety of information designed to help you maintain a healthy life. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd. Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered the interior office door leading into the supervisors office had been damaged in an attempt to open it. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 10-02-10, at 2:00 PM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Criminal Trespass / Evading Arrest or Detention / Attempted Assault of a Public Servent: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject inside a second floor restroom and recognized him as a known offender. The officer order the subject out of the restroom and to have a seat on a bench so he could conduct his investigation. The subject exited the restroom and continued to walk towards an exit as quickly as he could without running. The officer followed, ordering the subject to stop. Once outside the building, the subject charged the officer with a raised and closed fist. The officer order the subject to the ground, then assisted him with the request. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass / Evading Arrest or Detention and was transported to Central Booking. Charges for Attempted Assault of a Public Servent were not filed. Occurred on: 10-03-10, at 8:00 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed entering into the building without first purchasing a day pass. During the investigation, the subject explained he was a UT Arlington student and was unaware that he needed to buy a pass to enter. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-02-10, at 7:12 PM. INTRAMURAL FIELD, 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A non-UT subject reported her black and blue purse, containing several credit cards, personal identification, $10.00 in cash and a Pentech cellular telephone had been stolen. The officer learned the victim had not secured her vehicle prior to going to an event. During the investigation, the officer learned $700.00 in unauthorized charges had been made on several of the victim’s stolen credit cards. Loss value: $115.00. Occurred on: 10-02-10, between 12:30 PM and 2:40 PM. LAVACA BUILDING, 220 West 7th Street Criminal Trespass / Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject enter into the parking facility after pulling on an secured door. The staff member located the subject, just as he was jumping off of a vehicle hood. During the investigation, the subject informed the officers that he was waiting for a friend to pick him up. The officer noted the damage to the vehicle. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass / Criminal Mischief and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-02-10, at 2:48 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Failure to Identify / Evading Arrest: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject sleeping in a restricted area. After being awakened by the officer the subject stated he was a current student but gave the officer a false name. The subject was being escorted from the building while the officer was conducting part of his investigation. Once they reached the exterior doors, the subject took off running. The officers caught the subject a few blocks later and discovered the subject had in his possession a valid Texas ID card, with his correct name and date of birth. The subject was taken into custody for Failure to Identify / Evading Arrest and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 10-02-10, at 12:01 AM. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Streett Criminal Mischief: Six paper cut outs, resembling Pac Man ghosts, along with a hand written postal tag were discovered affixed to an east side exterior stairwell door. Loss value: $30.00. Discovered on: 10-03-10, at 10:30 AM. 500 BLOCK COLORADO Disorderly Conduct-Fighting / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed three non-UT males park a vehile in the middle of the roadway and exit. The subjects walked up to another groups of males standing at the intersection waiting to cross the street. One subject exited the vehicle, walked up and struck another subject standing at the intersection. The officer grabbed the suspect and ordered him to the ground. The subject was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct-Fighting. The officer soon learned the subject had several outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-02-10, at 2:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 37 Alarm Calls, 2 “Police Help” Callbox Activations, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 1 Motor Vehicle Collision, 1 Suspicious Package Report, 1 Suspicious Activity Call, 6 Public Assist Requests and 12 Unsecured Door between 10/01/10 and 10/04/10.
