Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 10/05/10 and Wednesday, 10-06-10. The UT Student Government and The UT Police Department is pleased to announce the beginning of UT’s Safety Week and National Night Out activities have started. See the list of activities and locations then come out and join us for a full week of fun and informative activities regarding safety, security, health and wellness. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 10 am to 1 pm Speedway Pedestrian Mall Law Enforcement Expo – come visit with representatives from the UT Police Department and the Austin Police Department as they show off their tools of the trade. See a TASER Demonstration, a K-9 unit or visit with Austin Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit or Bomb Squad. Take this opportunity to visit with and ask police officers questions you have regarding this noble profession. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 6 pm to 7:30 pm Jester Center West (Texas Cultures Room) Dinner With The Chiefs Join UT Police Chief Robert Dahlstrom and Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo for an evening of food and questions. Feel free to bring your questions for the Chiefs as you will have an opportunity to ask them topics on your mind regarding Austin and UT safety, security and law enforcement. Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 11 am to 2 pm West Mall Health and Wellness Fair Come out for a day of Health and Wellness at an informational fair where you can receive a variety of information designed to help you maintain a healthy life. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Harassment: A UT student reported receiving a number of unwanted text messages and telephone calls from an unknown subject late at night. Occurred on: 10-04-10, at 11:21 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Suspicious Person / Unauthorizrd Solicitation: A UT student reported being approached by an unknown subject. The subject asked for 5 minutes of the student’s time, then explained he was selling magazines for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. When the student explained that she did not have enough money, the subject directed her to an ATM machine so she could withdraw the money. The subject left the area after getting the money from the student. The subject was described as: White male, 20 years of age, 5’-07”, short blonde hair, and wearing glasses. The subject was last seen wearing a white DC shirt and blue jeans. Occurred on: 10-05-10, at 9:49 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Buyer Beware, this is a yearly scam. 2200 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Theft: A silver Scott mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike rack located on the south end of the Pedestrian Mall after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $155.00. Occurred on: 10-05-10, between 8:00 AM and 9:30 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 Alarm Calls, 2 Medical Emergency Assists, 2 Welfare Concern Reports, 1 Fire Call, 1 Suspicious Activity Call, 1 Public Assist Request and 3 Unsecured Door Reports between 10/05/10 and 10/06/10.
