Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 10-15-10 and Monday, 10-18-10. AT&T CONFERENCE CENTER, 1900 University Ave Theft: A black My Touch cellular telephone was reported stolen from an unsecured office. During the investigation, the officer learned the cellular telephone had been left in plain view on top of a desk plugged to recharge. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 10-16-10, between 8:30 PM and 9:15 PM. CLARK FIELD, 300 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer detected the odor of burning marijuana coming from Waller Creek. During the investigation, the officer located 6 UT students standing in the creek, two students attempted to walk away as the officer approached. As the officers were interviewing the subjects, they claimed that they had consumed all of the marijuana and were simply hanging out. The officers detected the odor of alcohol on two of the student’s breaths and learned they were both under the legal age of 21. Both students were issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-15-10, at 8:54 PM. COMMUNICATION BUILDING, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: Two UT students reported a non-UT subject was sitting in the 3rd floor lobby pleasuring himself, however they had not seen anything that would have been offensive. During the investigation, the officers located the subject sitting in the southwest portion of the lobby. The subject denied having been watching any pornography or pleasuring himself. The officers soon learned the subject had received 7 prior Criminal Trespass Warnings for various buildings on campus. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-15-10, at 9:47 PM. HARRY RAMSON CENTER, 300 West 21st Street Criminal Michief: A UT staff member heard the sound of breaking glass and discovered a window on the north side of the of building had been broken. The staff member reported seeing an unknown white male wearing dark colored clothing running from the area. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 11:54 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Theft: A blue Roadmaster mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured. Loss value: $115.00. Occurred between: 10-13-10 and 10-16-10. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Assault: Two non-UT subjects reported they had been involved in an argument over the smoking of a cigarette. The victim claimed she had been slapped by her boyfriend when she decided to smoke a cigarette. The suspect claimed he had attempted to stop his girlfriend from smoking and had grabbed her arm when he was slapped with an open hand. Neither subject wished to file charges and the officer was unable to determine what had occurred. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 2:13 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a subject staggering between his navigational beacons, the sidewalk and the curb. The subject was being assisted to a vehicle by several of his friends. The officers watched as the friends got into the vehicle, and the staggering subject attempted to get behind the wheel of the vehicle. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 2:24 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Criminal Trespass / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject enter into a construction site. The subject refused to leave after being told to do so. When approached by the staff member, the subject became combative and argumentative after being told to leave another five times. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In additioin to the law enforcement action taken the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 1:36 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 7th STREET Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping in an established campsite on the southwest side of the Lavaca Building. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 2:56 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: During another investigation, a UT student walked up to a UT Police Officer and exclaimed, “ Did I really see that?”. The officer asked the subject to sit down and that he would assist him. The subject left the area on foot. Officers located the subject a short distance later and learned the subject had taken three hits of LSD. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to a local area hospital. No charges were filed. Occurred on: 10-17-10, at 2:00 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Criminal Trespass Warning / Criminal Trespass: A UT student reported being followed by a non-UT subject. The subject was making the student feel uncomfortable as they approached a bus stop. The subject left as soon as the student contacted the UT Police Department via her cellular telephone. During the investigation, the officers searched the area and located the suspicious person a few blocks away after receiving another telephone call from another UT student. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had been issued a prior Criminal Trespass Warning and took the subject into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported him to Central Booking. In addition oto the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 6:35 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Possession of Marijuana / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject carrying what appeared to be a long knife. During the investigation and upon closer examination, the “knife” turned out to be a long antenna for a small radio. The subject admitted to having a knife in his fanny bag. When the officer opened the bag to retrieve the knife, a small plastic baggie was stuck to the knife. The baggie contained a small amount of marijunana. The subject was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 11:24 PM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol inside a Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer observed a black Honda travelling at a high rate of speed. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol inside the vehicle. The officer located a large cup that contained an alcoholic beverage and learned both the driver and the passenger were under the legal age of 21. The driver was issued a court appearance citation of Possession of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. The passeneger was issued a court appearance citation of Consumption of Acohol by a Minor. No charges were filed for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-17-10, at 2:36 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Exceeding Posted Speed Limit / Disregard Stop Sign / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT Police Officer saw a tan colored Honda speeding through campus and run through a Stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected the odor of unburned marijuana inside the vehicle. As the investigation continued, the officers located a small plastic baggie that contained a small amount of a green leafy substance that the officers recognized as marijuana. The subject subject was issued a field citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia as well as a citation for Speeding. Occurred on: 10-17-10, at 3:35 AM. 2300 BLOCK TRINITY Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit / Possession of Aloholic Beverage inside a Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer observed a silver Ford exceeding the posted speed limit. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and found two open cans of beer on the floor board of the vehicle. The subject was issued a court apprearence citation for Possession of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. Occurred on: 10-16-10, at 12:30 AM. 2400 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a subject staggering and stumbling as he made his way through campus. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and learned the subject was returning from an off-campus party. The officer soon discovered the subject was under the legal age of 21 and had been drinking while at the party. The officer issued the subject a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Ocurred on: 10-16-10, at 4:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 47 Alarm Calls, 1 EMS call, 2 Call Box Activation, 13 Suspicious Activity Calls, and 13 Unsecured Door Reports between 10/15/10 and 10/18/10.
