Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 10/19/10 Wednesday, 10/20/10. BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave. Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member discovered the odor of burning marijuana coming from a 3rd floor dormitory room. When the officers arrived, they also detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the same dormitory room. When the officers knocked on the door, they heard shuffling and squirming sounds coming from the room. During the investigation, the officers knocked on the door and identified two UT students inside the room. The officers asked the student if they knew why they were knocking on the door. One student responded, Possession of cannabis? In plain view, the officers saw a glass jar that contained a green leafy substance the officers quickly recognized as marijuana. Next to the jar was a stack of rolling papers and a small grinder. The students admitted to having split the cost of the marijuana. Both subjects were issued court appearance citations for Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 10-20-10, at 12:55 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member reported a UT student had entered the gym without showing a valid ID, and then gained access to the basketball courts by jumping over a retaining wall. During the investigation, the officers located the student and verified the student did not have a valid ID with him. The officers informed the student he was in violation of policy and needed to leave to retrieve his ID. The subject refused to leave the area. Again the officers explained to the student he was Criminally Trespassing and would be arrested if he refused to leave. The subject refused to leave and the officers took the subject into custody for Criminal Trespass. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: Occurred on: 10-19-10, at 3:57 PM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Theft: A yellow and black Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had a two-lock locking system, but did not use the U-shaped lock as the primary lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 10-15-10, and 10-16-10. MEZES HALL, #5 South Mall Theft: A blue and white Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being left unsecured. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had run back into the building to retrieve another unsecured item. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 10-19-10, at 4:50 PM. TRINITY PARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Street Criminal Mischief: A UT student reported discovering an unknown subject had fired unknown projectiles into the driver’s side window. The projectiles caused two 9-inch cracks and 4 small holes in the glass window. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 10-19-10 at 3:35 PM. 27th STREET PARKING GARAGE, 109 West 27th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A silver and blue Raleigh mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bed of a truck after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $510.00. Occurred on: 10-19-10, between 8:00 AM and 1:30 PM. 2500 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered one of the concrete pillars next to the traffic control arm had been pushed over and damaged. Loss value: $1,000.00. Discovered on: 10-20-10, at 4:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 30 Alarm Calls, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 3 Call box alarms, 2 Suspicious Activity Calls, 1 Public Assist, 1 Welfare Concern Report and 2 Unsecured Door Report between 10/19/10 and 10/20/10.
