Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 10/20/10 and Thursday, 10/21/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer responded to the 2nd level of the parking garage on a report of an intoxicated individual that was seen staggering between vehicles. As the officer was approaching the subject, the subject turned, faced a corner and began marking his terroritory. Once he had completed his task the officer began his investigation. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted the subject’s need for support due to his lack of balance. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-20-10, at 9:46 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A black and grey Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 10-20-10, between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject reported a second non-UT subject was aggressively stopping students and asking them for money. During the investigation, the officers located the offending subject at a bus stop and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was escorted off campus. Occurred on: 10-20-10, at 3:08 PM. 2200 BLOCK LAKE AUSTIN BLVD Driving While Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a grey Toyota commit several traffic violations including crossing over the center lane. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver admitted that he consumed several drinks. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the non-UT driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. During the testing phase, the driver stated to the officer that he was in “no condition to operate a vehicle.” The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-21-10, at 2:25 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 Alarm Calls, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 2 Suspicious Activity Calls, 1 Public Assist, 1 Welfare Concern Report and 1 Unsecured Door Report between 10/20/10 and 10/21/10.
