Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 10/22/10 and Monday, 10/25/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A black Torker U-District bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $75.00. Occurred between: 10-22-10 and 10-24-10. CREEKSIDE RESIDENCE HALL, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd Theft: A UT student witnessed a non-UT subject kneeling down inside the bike racks located on the west side of the building. The student then notified the UT Police Department as he watched the subject walk away with two bicycles. During the investigation, the officers located the subject several blocks away. The subject informed the officers that he had been to a party the night before and was too intoxicated to ride either bike home, and had forgotten the combination to the cable lock. The officers confiscated both bicycles and located a pair of bolt cutters inside the subject’s backpack. The following day, a UT student reported the theft of his bicycle. His description matched the description of one of the bicycles that had been confiscated the day before. Recovered loss value: $350.00 Occurred on: 10-22-10, at 3:45 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This student has become the next recipient of the Hungry for Justice Program. We will be delivering him a pizza of his choice. If you are interested in getting your own pizza from Hungry for Justice, it is very simple, notify the UT Police Department of any suspicious person or suspicious activity you are witnessing. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Assault: A non-UT subject reported another non-UT subject had grabbed her wrist and forearm in an offensive manner. During the investigation, the victim stated the suspect had wanted a kiss from her and he would introduce her to the band members. The victim pushed away and left the area. Occurred on: 10-23-10, at 12:43 AM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Possession of Marijuana: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was seen smoking a marijuana cigarette inside the Frank Erwin Center. During the investigation, the officer observed the glow of a cigarette cherry and watched the subject tilt his head back and exhale a plumb of smoke into the air. As the officer approached the subject, the officer detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana. The subject, seeing the officer approach, throw the marijuana cigarette down and snubbed it out with his shoe. The unsmoked portion of the cigarette was located by the officer, and the subject was escorted from the section. During the investigation, the subject stated he had received the marijuana cigarette from a co-worker when she learned he was attended the concert. No charges for Possession of Marijuana were filed and the subject was issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-22-10, at 8:25 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was seen jumping over a low retaining wall. During the investigation, the officers located the subject inside one of the racquetball courts. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-22-10, at 3:36 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Suspicious Person: A UT staff member observed a UT student jump over a retaining wall to enter into the building. During the investigation, the officers located the student. The student informed the officers that he thought it would be easier to jump the wall than swipe his card to gain entry. The student was given a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-23-10, at 7:06 PM. HOGG MEMORIAL AUDITORTUM, 2300 Whitis Ave. Theft: A green Specialized CrossRoads XP mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred between: 10-21-10 and 10-24-10. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported the odor of burning marijuana coming from a large group of students that were sitting around an outdoor table. During the investigation, the officers located the large group of students and detected a strong to moderate odor of burning marijuana wafting in the air. As the officers continued with their investigation, the officers located a black backpack next to the group; no one claimed ownership of the backpack. The officers search the backpack and discovered two grinders, several clear plastic baggies, rolling papers and a green glass pipe with marijuana residue inside the bowl. In addition to the drug paraphernalia discovered inside the backpack, the officers found several unopened cans of beer and an ID card identifying the owner. The owner was sitting next to the backpack when he claimed it was not his. The student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-24-10, at 1:36 PM. LITTLEFIELD DORMITORY, 201 West Dean Keeton Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT student was inside a third floor dormitory room and was highly intoxicated. During the investigation, the officers located the intoxicated student paying homage to the porcelain god. During the investigation, the officers learned the student had consumed several mixed drinks and a glass of champagne while attending a party. The officers determined the student was under the legal age of 21 and issued her a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-24-10, at 3:00 AM. O'HENRY HALL, 601 Colorado Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): A UT staff member observed two non-UT subjects sleeping on the south side of the building in an established campsite. During the investigation, the officers issued both subjects written Criminal Trespass Warnings and escorted them from the property. Occurred on: 10-25-10, at 12:25 AM. PARKING LOT 109, 1510 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered the rear window of a 2000 Honda broken out. The officer was unable to make contact with the registered owner. Loss value: $200.00. Discovered on: 10-24-10, at 1:23 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was allowed into the dormitory by a current student. When asked to stop, both subjects ignored the staff member and entered into the resident area. During the investigation, the officers located the student and his unauthorized guest. The officers were informed that both subjects had been to a party and they simply wanted to go to sleep. Neither subject was intoxicated and the unauthorized guest was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 1-24-10, at 4:05 AM. 2100 BLOCK RED RIVER Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject discovered another non-UT subject laying in the grassy median and notified the police. The reporting person stated he had feared the subject had been assaulted since there was a cellular telephone and a ball cap a short distance away. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the subject laying in the grassy median. The officers noted the subject’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-23-10, at 4:05 AM. 2200 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject walk up to an individual and begin asking that person for money. During the investigation, the subject explained he was on campus looking for aluminum cans. The officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 10-23-10, at 2:15 AM. 2500 BLCOK WHITIS AVE. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student reported another UT student was providing alcohol enriched compost to the local flora and fauna. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath from 5 feet away. The student informed the officer that he had consumed enough when asked how much he had drank. The officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21 and issued the subject a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The subject was released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 10-24-10, at 3:16 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 52 Alarm Calls, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 7 Suspicious Activity Calls, 2 Public Assists, 3 Welfare Concern Report and 10 Unsecured Door Reports between 10/22/10 and 10/25/10.
