Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 10/26/10 and Wednesday, 10/27/10. Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a partnership among the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD). BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Fraud: A UT staff member discovered a counterfeit $100.00 bill inside a departmental deposit. During the investigation, the officer learned the deposit was from FEC. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 10-26-10, at 10:55 AM. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 East 21st Street Theft: A grey Apple iPhone was reported stolen from a 5th floor work room. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had placed his cellular telephone on top of his work area, turned to help another student for a few minutes and realized his property had been stolen. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 10-26-10, between 1:55 PM and 2:00 PM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A black backpack containing an Apple laptop, laptop case, orange leather wallet, several credit cards and personal identification were reported stolen. During the investigation, the officers learned the passenger’s side window of a Mercedes had been broken. Loss value: $2,320.00. Occurred on: 10-26-10, between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Many of these types of thefts can be avoided by simply putting all of your belongings into the trunk of the vehicle. “Out of Sight, Out of Mind.” PERRY- CASTANADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A black wallet containing $140.00 in cash and several credit cards was reported stolen from somewhere inside the library after the wallet fell out of a student’s back pocket. Loss value: $161.00 Occurred on: 10-26-10, between 3:15 PM and 5:15 PM. 300 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Graffiti: A UT Police Officer discovered several areas of spray painted graffiti on the pedestrian bridge and the 23rd Street bridge. Est. Repair: $500.00. Discovered on: 10-27-10, at 3:35 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Activity Calls, and 4 EMS calls, 2 Public Assists between 10/26/10 and 10/27/10.
