Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 10/29/10 and Monday 11/01/10. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd. Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered two non-UT subjects on the eleventh level of the stadium. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had jumped over a locked gate to enter into the area. The subjects were issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Due to their ages, the officer notified their parents and released the subjects to an adult. Occurred on: 10-29-10, at 8:21 PM. CENTENNIAL PARK, 1600 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping in an established campsite. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 11:00 AM. CLARK FIELD, 300 East 21st Street Graffiti: Words written in silver paint were discovered on two light poles located on the east side of Clark Field. Estimated Damage: $100.00. Discovered on: 11-01-10, at 4:38 AM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Manufacture of a Gov’t Document: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student mixing an alcoholic beverage into a cup containing a soft drink. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and learned he was under the age of 21. As the student handed the officer his real Texas Driver’s License the officer observed a second DL in the student’s possession. The officer discovered the student had manufactured the fake ID. The student was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Charges are pending on the Manufacture of a Gov’t Document. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 6:15 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer passed a non-UT subject that had a very strong odor of alcohol on his person and also coming from his large cup containing a soft drink. The officer discovered the subject was in possession of a large flask of alcohol. During the investigation, the officer soon learned the subject had two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 7:38 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student attempted to walk into the stadium with two unopened beer cans sticking out of his pockets. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 6:40 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student staggering and having a difficult time maneuvering up a flight of stairs. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and learned he was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 6:55 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student bend down to pick up a quarter in a very odd way. The subject appeared to be concealing something in his waist band and by bending over the object was not secure any longer. During the investigation, the officer discovered the subject had in fact placed a germicide bottle containing whiskey into the small of his back. The subject was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 5:55 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Public Intoxication / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student ranting and raving about no refusal weekend to other patrons as they passed him. The student was attempting to conceal two bottles of alcohol in his front pants pockets. The officer escorted the subject from the stadium where he continued to rant. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 6:08 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Theft from Person / Failure to Identify: A non-UT subject felt his wallet being removed from his pocket. As he turned he saw his wallet in the hands of another non-UT subject. An officer working in the area stopped the suspect and the victim at the request of the victim. During the investigation, the victim stated he felt a finger on his right rear pocket and then felt his wallet being lifted out of his pocket. As he turned quickly around he saw the suspect holding his wallet in both hands. The victim grabbed the suspect and his wallet while calling out for the police to assist him. The officers asked the suspect for his State issued ID. The suspect explained that his wallet had been stolen the night before and was unable to give it to them. The officers soon learned the suspect had given them a false name and date of birth. The suspect was taken into custody for Theft from Person / Failure to Identify and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 7:54 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Pick-Pocketing in not a new type of crime, but one that has been around for hundreds of years. This crime has a simple solution to thwart the thieves. That solution is placing a rubber band around your wallet. The friction prevents the wallet from being lifted out of your back pocket. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer responded to Gregory Gym on a reported alarm. During the investigation, the officer located a UT student sitting in the Hot Tub eating ice cream, listening to an IPod while drinking his milk. The student informed the officers as to how he had entered the area without permission. The student was given a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning as well as a referral to the Dean of Student’s Office. He was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 1:40 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT student was passed out in the hallway outside a 10th floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and noted the subject was wearing evidence on the front of his shirt that he had experienced an adverse physical reaction to the over-consumption of alcohol. The student was asked who the president of the United States was and he stated,” Not I.” The officers located the subject’s roommate and as the student was entering his room the officers observed two 750ml bottles of alcohol, a shot glass and glass mixer sitting on a table. The student looked at the bottles of alcohol then looked at the officers and stated, “That will be a problem.” The officers had already determined the student was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 5:20 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject passed out inside the restaurant. His two friends were notifying Austin EMS. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject was under the legal age of 21 and had been to a fraternity party. At the party, he had consumed 5 or 6 mixed drinks. Austin EMS transported the subject to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 10-31-01, at 2:39 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported a UT subject was intoxicated and was vomiting into a trash can. During the investigation, the officers located the student in the lobby standing over a trashcan and being assisted by her roommate and sister. The officer learned the subject had consumed an unknown amount of vodka and was under the legal age of 21. The officer issued the student a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to her sober sister and roommate. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 1:11 AM. KINOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave. Theft: A UT staff member discovered four dark colored wooden chairs with cloth seat had been stolen from a ground level conference room. Loss value: $2,000.00. Occurred between: 10-08-10 and 10-22-10. LITTLEFIELD DORMITORY, 201 West Dean Keeton Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported being followed by another UT student on several occasions. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject would show up at different events around campus that the reporting person was attending. The officers located the subject and informed him that his actions were considered harassing by the reporting person. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 1:07 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A blue Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 10-22-10 and 10-29-10. TRINITY PPARKING GARAGE, 1815 Trinity Ave Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered the passenger’s window of a silver colored VW Jetta broken out. The officer was unable to determine if any personal property was missing from the vehicle. The officer was able to make contact with the registered owner. The owner stated none of her property was missing from her vehicle. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 10-29-10, at 9:29 AM. 1700 BLOCK MANOR ROAD Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: Several UT Police Officers responded to Parking Lot 104 on a report of a burglary. As the officers were approaching, one officer observed a subject running from the area. The subject fell face first into the roadway. During the investigation, the subject claimed he was trying to catch a taxi. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted he had a hard time maintaining his balance while sitting on the curb. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. As the investigation was being completed, the officer learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Theft. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 2:53 AM. 1400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed the rear passenger hanging out of moving vehicle. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the rear passenger’s breath and learned he was under the legal age of 21. The passenger was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 12:40 AM. 1800 BLOCK LAVACA Assist Outside Agency: A unidentified subject reported a vehicle was blocking an intersection of MLK and Lavaca. The officer observed several cycles of the light changes and the vehicle never moved. The officer witnessed both the driver and passenger passed out inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The Austin Police Department responded. Occurred on: 10-30-10, at 7:44 PM. 2000 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Graffiti: A word written in black maker were discovered on a light pole. Estimated Damage: $100.00. Discovered on: 11-01-10, at 1:02 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Possession of Alcoholic Beverage inside a Motor Vehicle / Disregard a Stop Sign: A UT Police Officer observed a red Mazda run through a controlled intersection without stopping at the Stop Sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer observed an open bottle of beer sitting in a cup holder. The non-UT driver was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Alcoholic Beverage inside a Motor Vehicle. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 4:07 AM. 2900 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication (2 Counts) / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed two non-UT subjects standing in the middle of the roadway providing one finger hand jesters and two word sayings to emphasize the hand jesters. As the officer turned his vehicle around, the subjects crossed the street and began watering the foundation of a local business. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both subjects. One subject was found to have two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-31-10, at 11:59 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 40 Alarm Calls, 6 Call Box Alarms, 6 Suspicious Activity Calls, 7 Unsecured Door Reports, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 1 Collision Report, 1 Light Malfunction Report and 1 Medical emergency Assist Call between 10/29/10 and 11/01/10.
