Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 11/03/10 and Thursday, 11/04/10. BRACKENRIDGE HALL DORMITORY, 207 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts): While investigating a report of the smell of burning marijuana, UT Police Officers found a 1st floor resident who was in possession of a water pipe containing burned marijuana residue and rolling papers. That resident’s roommate was found to be in possession of a glass pipe containing burned marijuana residue, a grinding tool with ground up marijuana residue and three containers that each had marijuana residue. Occurred on 11/02/10 at 2:01 am. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Criminal Mischief (2 counts): A windshield wiper blade to a Microtruk and both windshield wiper blades to white Chevrolet Silverado truck were bent while both vehicles were parked on the north side of the dormitory. Repair cost: $75.00. Occurred between 11/02/10 at 4:30 pm and 11/03/10 at 6:30 am. LIVING LEARNING HALL E, 2610 Whitis Theft: A blue and grey Polaris bicycle was stolen after it was “secured” with a cable lock to the burglar bars affixed to the east exterior window of the building. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between 11/02/10 at 6:45 pm and 11/03/10 at 7:50 am. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Burglary: An envelope containing $200 in cash and a brown Fossil wallet containing two forms of identification and $60 in cash was stolen from a 1st floor dormitory room. The resident of the room advised the only time he and his roommate leave their dormitory room door unlocked is when they use the community restroom. Loss value: $280.00. Occurred on 11/03/10 between 3:00 am and 4:30 pm. PERRY CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Reckless Damage or Destruction: Two table legs were broken off of a table located on the 5th floor of the library. The damage was consistent with something heavy being placed on one end of the table. Replacement cost: $300.00. Discovered on 11/04/10 at 2:14 am. PHARMACY BUILDING, 2409 University Graffiti: A black permanent marker was used to write an illegible word on the wall above two different porcelain fixtures. Removal cost: $50.00. Reported on 11/03/10 at 11:37 am. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A yellow Motiv bicycle was stolen from the dormitory’s bicycle racks. The owner stated he believed he must have been in a hurry as he did not think he used his u-lock to secure the bicycle to the bicycle racks. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between 10/29/10 and 11/04/10 at 100:00 pm. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 23 Alarm Calls, 1 “Police help” Call Box Activation, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, 2 Welfare Concern Reports, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 3 Public Assist Requests and 4 Unsecured Door Reports between 11/03/10 and 11/04/10. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that covers assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
