Report for 11/10/2010

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 11/09/10 and Wednesday, 11/10/10. BENEDICT HALL, #7 South Mall Graffiti: A black marker was used to draw an image on a bathroom stall wall. Removal cost: $35.00. Reported on 11/09/10 at 12 noon. UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE BUILDING, 1701 Manor Suspicious Activity: A female staff member reported while she was taking a break on the west side of the building, a white male drove up to her location in a grey colored 4-door sedan and began to speak to the staff member. The staff member told the subject she needed to go back into the building to work. The subject then asked the staff member if she wanted to get into his vehicle. The staff member declined the offer to enter the subject’s vehicle. The subject drove away when a co-worker approached the staff member but returned before the staff member entered the building and began to drive toward her location in a slow manner. The subject was described as a white male with a medium build and brown hair. The subject was wearing a light colored shirt. Occurred on 11/09/10 between 4:30 pm and 4:40 pm. Crime Prevention Tip: Aside from the obvious tip of safety in numbers, allow me to provide a few more tips. As a general tip, you should stay away from the street side of a sidewalk. This provides you a reaction time if someone wanted to force you into their car. If a person you do not know approaches you in a vehicle, it is best to leave the area and not engage the person. If the person asks you a question or for directions, then stay away from the vehicle and provide your response from a distance. If the person tells you they can’t hear you, then shout your response; never approach the vehicle. If anything makes you feel uneasy, then leave the area; run if you must. Call the police as soon as possible. If possible, make note of the vehicle’s license plate and direction of travel. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Theft: A UT student was summoned to the police department to claim her lost wallet. When the student arrived, she discovered $20 was missing from her wallet. The student was not sure where her wallet was lost or stolen. Loss value: $20.00. Discovered on 11/09/10 at 4:00 pm. UT ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Graffiti: White spray paint was used to write words on the sidewalk located on the south side of the building. Removal cost: $50.00. Discovered on 11/09/10 at 12:04 pm.
