Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 11/12/10 and Monday, 11/15/10. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Evading Arrest: A UT Police Officer discovered two UT students, puff-puff-passing a water bong, on the southeast side of the parking garage. As the officer approached, one subject jumped up and fled the area on his bicycle. The officer detained one student and learned the student who had fled had left carrying a baggie containing suspected marijuana. Within minutes the officers located the fleeing student inside his dormitory room. Officers located a clear plastic baggie containing marijuana as well as the water bong inside the dormitory room. The subject was issued field release citations for Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. A warrant is being issued for the Evading Arrest. Occurred on: 11-12-10, at 8:41 PM. CAROTHERS DORMITORY, 2501 Whitis Ave Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported a UT student was wandering from dormitory to dormitory while exhibiting the physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol in several locations. During the investigation, the officers located the subject passed out in the hallway. After being awakened, the subject became combative towards the officers, when he realized the officer had found his wallet further down the hallway. When he discovered Austin EMS was there to assist him due to his intoxication level. He began yelling, “I can’t afford this!” and kicking at the officers. Due to the student’s intoxication level, he was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. Charges for Public Intoxication were filed. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 11:23 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Assault: A non-UT subject reported he had been assaulted by another non-UT subject after requesting that subject to sit down. During the investigation, the officers learned both subjects had started arguing over “fair-weather fans” and then, the suspect began punching the victim. The victim declined to file charges. The suspect was escorted from the stadium and issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 8:00 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Assault: A non-UT subject reported being assaulted by another non-UT subject during the football game. During the investigation, the officers learned the suspect had been harassing the victim by hitting him on top of his head with a ball cap. The victim informed the suspect that he needed to stop, at which point the suspect hit the victim in the mouth. The officers took the suspect into custody for Assault with Bodily Injury. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 7:18 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Dr. Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject became confrontational with the police officers after he had been seen attempting to gain entry into the stadium with someone else’s ticket. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 6:00 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft of Service / Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject had entered into the building without purchasing a day pass. During the investigation, the officers located the subject playing basketball on the 3rd floor. The officers soon learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Theft. The subject was taken into custody for the Outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 1:55 PM JACKSON SCHOOL OF GEOLOGY, #10 East Mall Theft: A black and silver Apple iPhone was reported stolen from inside an unsecured backpack. Loss value: $600.00. Occurred on: 11-10-10 between 10:00 AM and 12:01 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Staff member reported a UT student was next to the first floor elevator experiencing an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had been to a fraternity party where she had consumed several mixed drinks. The officer determined the student was under the legal age of 21 and issued her a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 3:17 AM. LITTLEFIELD DORMITORY, 201 West Dean Keeton Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member reported the odor of burning marijuana coming from a second floor women’s restroom. Upon entry into the staff member discovered a UT student standing at a sink washing out a glass pipe. During the investigation, the officer located the student inside her dormitory room. The officer confiscated the pipe and issued the student a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 11-12-10, at 3:21 PM. LITTLEFIELD HOUSE, 302 West 24th Assist Outside Agency / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered two non-UT subject’s inside an established campsite on the west side of the building. During the investigation, the officers issued both subjects written Criminal Trespass Warnings. Prior to the conclusion of the investigation, the officers learned one of the subjects had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 6:00 AM. NORTH END ZONE, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject staggering back and forth adjacent to the edge of the stadium seating. During the investigation, the subject attempted to communicate to the officers with a mush mouth, thick tongue dialect. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 9:17 PM. PARKING LOT 14, 2300 Block Inner Campus Drive Criminal Mischief: An unidentified subject reported a large group of non-UT subjects were over turning trashcans and dumping out the contents of the trashcans onto the ground. Several rock and concrete benches were discovered overturned as well as one bench being found in two pieces. The officers located the large group of subjects and identified them as students from another Big 12 University. After being informed of the criminal investigation, several of the students adhered to their Honor Code and identified for the officers two suspects. Two additional students stepped up and called the suspects and had them meet the officers at the scene. At this time no charges were filed. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 1:21 AM. SEAY PSYCHOLOGY BUILDING, 108 East Dean Keeton Theft: A blue steel Gary Fisher mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 11-12-10, between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. 300 BLOCK WEST INNER CAMPUS DRIVE Assist Outside Agency: An Austin Police Officer stopped a non-UT subject riding a UT registered bicycle. The subject had in his possession a pair of bolt cutters. During the investigation, the officers were able to identify the owner of the bicycle and confirm the bicycle had been in fact stolen. The non-UT subject was taken into custody for Theft and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-15-10, at 3:06 AM. 2100 BLOCK GUADALUPE Assault by Threat: A UT student reported a non-UT subject approached him demanding money. When the student told the subject “No” the non-UT subject became very aggressive and charged at the student. The student turned and ran away. The subject got onto a south bound bus and left the area as the student was notifying the Police Department. During the investigation, the officers located the suspect and issued him a field release citation for Assault by Threat. Occurred on: 11-12-10, at 12:05 PM. 2100 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Public Intoxication / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was seen staggering back and forth into the traffic roadway. When stopped the subject handed the officer his bus pass. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 12:00 AM. 2100 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT student lying on the sidewalk next to a trashcan with her head in her lap. Austin EMS was notified when the officer had a hard time getting the student to wake up. She was treated at the scene and transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. A summons will be sent to her with regards to these criminal charges. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 6:00 PM. 2200 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Driving While Intoxicated / Possession of Marijuana / Possession of More than One Valid DL / Fraud / Driving Without a License: A UT Police Officer observed a silver Nissan travelling at a high rate of speed while failing to stop at a stop sign. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and observed several clues that indicated the driver was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody. During a custodial search, the officer located a clear plastic baggie that contained a green leafy substance that the officer recognized as marijuana. The subject was transported to Central Booking. At Central Booking, the subject removed her shoe and attempted to remove a second TX driver’s license and a credit card issued to someone else. Additional charges are pending. Occurred on: 11-14-10, at 1:01 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject standing in the entryway leading into the parking garage, blocking traffic. The subject staggered away limping while utilizing the side of the building for support. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The subject claimed he had a friend who was a cop and did not want to answer any questions or have to lie to the officer. The officer soon discovered the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 1:15 AM. 2500 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The subject was unable to maintain any form of balance as he attempted to stand or sit up. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 11-13-10, at 3:05 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 46 Alarm Calls, 3 Medical Emergency Assist, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, 3 Welfare Concern Report, 1 Public Assist Request and 4 Unsecured Door Reports between 11/12/10 and 11/15/10.
