Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 11/18/10 and Friday, 11/19/10. ***** Administrative Message ***** The Austin Police Department released the following information to the University of Texas Police Department. Two robberies occurred in West Campus over the weekend (11-14-10) with the same MO and suspect description. In both cases, the victim was walking down the street when a white or crème colored sedan pulled up alongside of them. The suspects, described as three Black males, exited the vehicle and robbed the victims at gunpoint. You can now follow us on Twitter @UTAustinPolice EAST MALL, 201 East 22nd Street Criminal Trespass Warning (4 Counts): UT Police Officers responded to the East Mall on a report of four non-UT subjects attempting to sell magazine subscriptions to the students and staff walking through the area. During the investigation, the officers located the subjects and issued them written Criminal Trespass Warnings and escorted them from the area. Occurred on: 12:23 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black and yellow GMC mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 11-16-10 and 11-18-10. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member reported a heavy odor of burning marijuana coming from a 14th floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officers located the residences inside the dorm room. One student admitted to have been smoking an e-cigarette, but was very nervous when talking to the officers. As the student was talking to the officers she opened a drawer and the officers observed a toilet roll stuffed with fabric softener sheets. The student stated she uses the roller to conceal the odor and smoke from her “e-cigarette.” The officer noted a strong odor of burned marijuana in the fabric sheets and issued the student a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 12:32 AM. SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORKS, 1925 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A red wallet containing a checkbook, several credit cards and personal identification was reported stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor office. During the investigation, the officers learned the victim had returned to her office to see a suspicious person standing in the hallway outside of her office. The unknown subject left the area quickly. The subject was described as: Black male, 40 years of age, medium build, with short hair. The subject was last seen wearing a brown jacket and black shirt. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 11-18-10, between 8:00 AM and 10:55 AM. SPEEWAY PARKING GARAGE, 105 East 27th Street Graffiti: An octopus shaped figure and several words were discovered spray painted in red paint on the northeast exterior wall of the building. Estimated Repair: $100.00. Discovered on: 11-19-10, at 1:51 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 8th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was staggering and falling into the roadway. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted his pants were wet and unfastened. The officer asked the subject if he had been drinking. The subject replied, “More than a normal person can handle.” The officers took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-18-10, at 11:08 PM. 600 BLOCK EAST CLYDE LITTLEFIELD Driving While Intoxicated: A UT student driving a silver Ford began “tailgating” a marked UT Police patrol vehicle. After passing the patrol vehicle, the Ford sped up and exceeded the posted speed limit. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and noted the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. The student informed the officer that he had been to a party at a friend’s apartment, but had not consumed any alcoholic beverages. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the student. The UT student displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The student was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 3:37 AM. 2300 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication / Fictitious ID: A non-UT subject was discovered staggering along bumping into pillars and losing his fight with Earth’s gravity. The subject came to rest inside a flower bed and had a hard time attempting to stand up after losing his balance. During the investigation, the subject handed the officers a fake ID, then informed the officers that he was only 20 years old. The subject told the officers that he was returning from the 6th Street area where he had consumed “a fair amount” of alcohol. The officers took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 12:59 AM. 2300 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE Public Intoxication: A UT staff member reported a UT student was sitting outside in the cold weather without a jacket on. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The student would simply stare at the officers and not respond to their questions. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication after officers were unable to locate a friend to take care, custody and control of the student. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 3:15 AM. 2700 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication / Fictitious ID: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student staggering between his navigational beacons, the sidewalk and the curb. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer also noted the student was bleeding from a wound on his right arm, which the student could not explain how he got. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Prior to being transported, the officers located a counterfeit or fictitious State issued temporary Driver’s Permit. The officers noticed it expired at the beginning of October, but had been issued on the day of the Texas / Nebraska football game. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 3:10 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 Alarm Calls, 1 Medical Emergency Assist, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, 2 Public Assist Requests and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 11/18/10 and 11/19/10.
