Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 11/19/10 and Monday, 11/22/10. COMMUNICATION BUILDING A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a restricted area viewing pornographic material on a UT computer. When the subject realized the officer was standing there, he began closing down various websites. The subject informed the officer that he had a visitor UT EID and was allowed to have access to the computer system. During the investigation, the officer soon learned the subject had received seven prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings from different buildings around campus. After learning this information, the subject insisted the UT Chief of Police had issued him a letter granting him access into the buildings on campus. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken the subject was issued his 8th Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-21-10, at 7:57 AM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: A non-UT subject reported the theft of her backpack containing a cellular telephone, charger, Osh Kosh shirt and pants, and Cars theme toilet seat covers. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had been told her backpack was not allowed into the stadium and that the event staff would secure it for her during the game. At the end of the football game the victim discovered her property had not been turned in to be secured. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 11-20-10, between 2:20 PM and 6:30 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student staggering and swaying back and forth while attempting to jump on the bleachers. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and learned the student was under the legal age to have been consuming adult beverages. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Occurred on: 11-20-10, at 4:15 PM. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: An unknown subject reported a non-UT subject appeared to be intoxicated inside a women’s restroom near section 7. During the investigation, the officers located a non-UT subject leaning against a pillar trying, very hard, to make a cellular telephone call to a friend. The subject then had difficultly walking away from the area as the officers approached her. As the investigation progressed the subject became argumentative with the officers and informed them that she was an attorney, she was intoxicated but was not driving. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-20-10, at 3:38 PM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the west side of the building in an established campsite. The subject informed the officers that he was checking out the buildings and some of the free shows on campus. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning for free and was escorted from campus. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 6:17 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black leather wallet containing $10.00 in cash, several credit cards, personal identification, and a gift card was reported stolen. During the investigation, the officers learned the wallet had been left unsecured and unattended on a bleacher while its former owner played basketball. Loss value: $40.00. Occurred on: 11-21-10, between 7:45 PM and 8:50 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject had entered into a restricted area in order to gain entry into the building. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 11-21-10, at 7:09 PM. LITTLEFIELD HOUSE, 302 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping in an established campsite on the west side of the building. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had received 5 prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings for various locations around the University of Texas. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued his 6th Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 11-20-10, at 2:08 AM. LITTLEFIELD HOUSE, 302 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the west side of the building in an established campsite. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 5:20 PM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Graffiti: Words, along with graphic pictures, were discovered written in yellow marker along the east exterior wall. Loss value: $150.00. Discovered on: 11-21-10, at 11:40 PM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Delivery of a Controlled Substance / Evading Arrest / Resisting Arrest: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject sitting on the east side of the building. As the officer made contact with the subject, the subject grabbed a backpack and pushed the officer backwards towards Guadalupe. After a short chase, the officer caught the subject. With the assistance of a UT Police Department Guard the subject was taken into custody. During the investigation, the officer learned why the subject did not want to talk with the offices or want the officers near his backpack. The subject was found to be in possession of 24 grams of psychotropic mushrooms. The subject was taken into custody for Possession of a Controlled Substance / Evading Arrest / Resisting Arrest and was transported to Central Booking. The subject asked the transporting officer if he know what the punishment was for selling fungus. He then answered his own question by informing the officer that he had looked it up on the internet before he even got ever got started. Occurred on: 11-21-10, at 2:11 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered slumped over and passed out while sitting at a bus stop. The student was slow in responding when the officers began waking him up. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted he was wearing the evidence that he had experienced a physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol on the front of his shirt and pants. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-21-10, at 3:02 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed two UT students and a third non-UT subject rolling around on the ground. Two of the students were having a difficult time regaining their balance. As the officer approached the subjects, one subject walked away in the direction of the dormitories. As the officers arrived, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the two student’s breath. One student did not know where he was. Austin EMS treated the subject and transported him to a local area hospital. The second subject informed the officers that he was 28 years old and was born in 1992. Officers took him into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. The third non-UT subject was located inside one of the dormitories, talking on his cellular telephone. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath as well. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was also transported to Central Booking. A summons for Public Intoxication is being sent to the student that ended up in the hospital. Occurred on: 11-21-10, art 12:51 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Theft of Service: A non-UT subject was reported to have created a Shamu style “Splash Zone” in the back of a taxi. The officers learned the subject had exited the moving cab through an open window. During the investigation, the officers learned the passenger then attempted to run from the driver. The driver caught the intoxicated passenger and detained him until the officers arrived. As soon as the officers arrived, the non-UT subject stated he had the money to pay the driver. The passenger was issued a field release citation for Theft of Service. Occurred on: 11-20-10, at 1:03 AM. 1700 BLOCK MANOR ROAD Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was reported to have been selling counterfeit Longhorn Foundation parking permits. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had three outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for several traffic offenses. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-20-10, at 11:35 AM. 2300 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Public Intoxication / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT student reported two non-UT subjects had been involved in a collision in the 2300 Block Robert Dedman. Both subjects were attempting to leave the area on foot. An off-duty police officer located both subjects as they tried to run across 4 lanes of traffic. Both were detained. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on both subject’s breath and noted their eyes were bloodshot. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. As the collision scene was being investigated, officers discovered a clear plastic baggie that contained a small amount of a white powder residue. The powder tested positive for Cocaine. Occurred on: 11-21-10, at 4:38 PM. 2500 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE Assault: A UT staff member reported being assaulted by a non-UT subject after the non-UT subject received a parking citation from the staff member. Officers located the suspect and he denied assaulting anyone after receiving a parking citation. Charges for Assault are pending. Occurred on: 11-19-10, at 10:35 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 47 Alarm Calls, 2 Medical Emergency Assist, 3 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Malfunctioning Light Report, 5 Public Assist Requests, 6 Call Box Activations, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 11/18/10 and 11/19/10.
