Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 12/03/10 and Monday, 12/06/10. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING BUILDING, 200 East Dean Keeton Theft: A blue and silver Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $800.00. Occurred on: 12-04-10, between 2:00 PM and 4:53 PM. COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd. Theft: A red Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $150.00 Occurred on: 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft of Service / Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): A UT staff member witnessed two non-UT subjects attempt to enter the building without purchasing a pass. During the investigation, one subject informed the officer that he was a UT alumnus an simply wanted to play basketball. The officers issued both subjects written Criminal Trespass Warnings and escorted them from the area. No charges for Theft of Service were filed at this time. Occurred on: 12-04-10, at 3:58 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member reported an unauthorized person inside the dormitory that was refusing to leave. During the investigation the officers located the subject walking away from the area. The subject informed the officers that he was trying to see his friends and had been denied access into the dormitory. The officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and learned he was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 12-06-10, at 1:57 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: Several UT Police Officers responded to Jester on a report of a highly intoxicated student that was going in out of consciousness and was acting violently in the hallway. During the investigation, the officers noted a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s person as well as evidence that she had an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol in no less than 7 different locations while in the hallway. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported her to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 12-06-10, at 1:30 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A red Roadmaster mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $120.00. Occurred between: 12-03-10 and 12-05-10. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Theft: A green Custom Hybrid mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $615.00. Occurred on: 12-03-10, between 8:25 AM and 3:00 PM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated / Possession of Marijuana: A UT student was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit while driving a grey Honda. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The student denied having consumed any alcohol, but had just dropped off his friends. The student informed the officer that he was currently driving home on San Gabriel unaware the transporting elixir had sent him to San Jacinto Blvd. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety test and observed several clues that indicated the student was intoxicated. The student was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. During an inventory search of the student’s vehicle, officers discovered a clear plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana. Additional charges for Possession of Marijuana were filed. Occurred on: 12-04-10, at 1:39 AM. 2500 BLOCK WHITIS AVE Theft / Reckless Driving: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject removing a Parking and Transportation wheel immobilization device from a vehicle. As the officers arrived the subject drove the wrong way on a posted One-Way Street and left the area at a high rate of speed. During the investigation, the officers were able to identify the registered owner of the vehicle. Charges for Theft and Reckless Driving are pending. Occurred on: 12-06-10, at 5:53 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 57 Alarm Calls, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Public Assist calls, 2 Call Box alarms, 2 EMS calls, and 8 Unsecured Doors reports between 12/03/10 and 12/10.
